I can not stress enough how valuable this horn is. The upper range on this tuba as well as the lower is fantastic. The horn is free blowing and the roary valves give you the edge up on quick playing. The overall sound quality that is produced is amazing. It gives a dark rich tone that fills a room very nice. The higher up range allows for no blatting because it can handle a large amount of air. This horn would not be recommended for student players unless you have a lot of air to fill the horn. Otherwise this is a really great horn.

This horn is great for the price and when compared to top professional brands, this one is a close competitor! This horn is the best! Many professors have recommended Cerveny to me and I am happy they did. It is an excellent horn.

Happy with this horn

By Chris Richards

Comments about GCR FOR I CODE CBB 686-4PRX-O Series 4-Valve 4/4 BBb Tuba:

I been playing about 5 years now (this time), and just recently bought this horn from WWBW. I read the reviews and was expecting a good horn, and boy did I get it. So far I have had no complaints. Our director likes the new sound and I like the speed with which I can now play. The previous horn had some of the largest piston valves I've ever seen and the physics just didn't allow for the speed some pieces need. I played a Miraphone in the mid 70's and it still had the best range of any horn I've played, but this one comes close and the difference isn't worth the price to a hobbyist like me. It also seems like the concerns about the ease of denting may be over stated. While it will take some extra care to the prevent denting, it is sturdier than other reviews led me to believe. I was almost expecting something that was foil-thin.

You get what you pay for.

Comments about GCR FOR I CODE CBB 686-4PRX-O Series 4-Valve 4/4 BBb Tuba:

I purchased this instrument in November of 2004. I have played Yamaha's, Conn's and loved playing Miraphone. With this horn you get alot of bang for the buck. I have played for forty years and choose this horn because it was affordable. I set in concert band with three other tubas, all are Miraphone, but the Cerveny has shown them. With this model the brass is thin and will dent easily if you are not careful. The tone is excellent. The value action and spring tension is good and the action is quiet. I would recommend this horn to any level.... it's a great value for the dollar. Enjoy

Just what I was looking for

By Chris Richards

Comments about GCR FOR I CODE CBB 686-4PRX-O Series 4-Valve 4/4 BBb Tuba:

I've had this horn for about a month now, and could not be happier. It is an easy play and has range that I haven't seen in a horn since the Mirafone I played in the mid-70's. The first day I played it, our director commented on the improved sound. ALso the rotary valve are a big improvement over the last horn I played, which had huge piston valves, limiting the speed at which I could play - just can't beat physics.I personally believe that the concern over denting is overblown. While it is a lighter metal, I have played horns that were much easier than this one to dent and ding. All in all a great horn at a great price.

Good horn!

Comments about GCR FOR I CODE CBB 686-4PRX-O Series 4-Valve 4/4 BBb Tuba:

This tuba is probably the best tuba I ever had. I had a Yamaha 321 before but the sound is not rich enough. So I sold it. I bought the Cerveny two weeks later and I just needed $200 to have a better tuba with richer sound! This horn is an ideal choice for players with tight budget.

Very nice horn

By Mathmaniac

Comments about GCR FOR I CODE CBB 686-4PRX-O Series 4-Valve 4/4 BBb Tuba:

Excellent horn, wonderful sound, easy to operate, and great price for quality. I have played many horns but this is by far the best I have ever played with, and I will continue playing this horn. One thing you have to watch, is your maintenance. The thin metal that gives it a great sound will also ding and bend very easily. Also the red-bronze color is beautiful on such a great horn.

This Cerveny is my best. The sound is rich and I can easily make the slurs. But you should take care not to make unfortunate dents.

Tuba Minor

By mr. t

Comments about GCR FOR I CODE CBB 686-4PRX-O Series 4-Valve 4/4 BBb Tuba:

Played a cerveny 686 as principle tubist for the Samford University Wind Ensemble. Fine sound and excellent response in all registers. The only drawback to the cerveny is the thin metal used for the horn. This leads to many unfortunate dings if you are not very careful with your baby. I would buy this horn over and over and put it up against any miraphone horn any day of the week.

I have played this tuba for 3 years and it is the best one I have ever played. Excellent tone quality and the rotary valves are the best. They are fast and smooth. Big and full sound.
