Based on others recommendation, I bought the book thinking that it might be too much for me to start with. This was actually the perfect book to begin you journey with the guitar. I am not all the way through it yet but have found that it is laying the proper foundation to build on.

I bought several different "learn how to play guitar" books. Both with and without CDs. Most went back on my bookshelf to use another day, another century maybe? When I started the Hal Leonard Guitar Method I was hooked. This method teaches you everything you need to know for a solid base in playing guitar. It teaches you how to read music and where to find the notes on the fretboard. You will also learn to read and play tab, chords, and scales. The method teaches timing, technique, and on and on and on and on. Hal Leonard publishes a wide variety of additional books to enjoy using what you've been learning and to learn even more. The CDs make it fun and easy to learn correct timing and what it sounds like to play with a band. I also purchased the Hal Leonard Guitar Method DVD and find it very helpful.
