I have the older model of this bass the rbx164 and I just got a new model. The 164 was the best bass I had owned until I got a stingray, but now that I have a 170, the stingray has found itself spending more time in the case than on the road with me. I would recommend this bass to any bassist, beginner or pro. It sounds great and is Easy to play.

Not impressed

Comments about Yamaha RBX170 Bass:

I realize my comments will be unpopular here but I find this guitar very unimpressive. It feels cheap, the tuners are junk and the build quality is so-so. Fretwork is terrible on every one I've ever touched and you better file the fret ends. Tone is bearable and the guitars only saving grace.

can't say enough about this bass

Comments about Yamaha RBX170 Bass:

After trying lots of bass guitars at local stores, I fell in love with this one. Great tone, neck, tuners, build quality, balance, weight, looks and it even has 24 frets -- all of which make for a great bass. Both the neck and bridge pickups can be mixed to give all sorts of tones. Plays great with picking, plucking, or slapping. This bass sounds like much more expensive models but costs a fraction of the price. I recommend the black color - looks awesome!

Great for learners

Comments about Yamaha RBX170 Bass:

It really is a conventional little bass, and was very tone-worthy. It has a nice sustain, and a full tone. The P/J pickups were a gift in themselves. It put up with a beating and best of all, the price. you really cant get a better deal.

Awesome!

Comments about Yamaha RBX170 Bass:

This is an awesome buy. After reading the reviews I did quite a bit of research. The local guitar shop had a few of these over to the side, next to the "high-end" basses. I took a day and played all of them. After trying them all I kid you not--this is the BEST bass around for the money. When I got it, it was already tuned right out of the box. It was even better set up then the ones I played in the store.

the best bass I have ever played

Comments about Yamaha RBX170 Bass:

I got this bass for Christmas and I just can't put it down. First off,IT IS WICKED LIGHT!. A bass of this quality would normally cost twice as much, also it has all the standard features and is very solid, making it good popping and slap stuff. Pickups produce a good clean tone. But my one complaint is that when the bass nob is turned al the way up the volume nob stop working which is kinda weird but whatever, at this price you cant go wrong even if you own a fender jazz or something this bass makes a great backup.

Looks,Play,Rocks!

By Noah Finco, 9

Comments about Yamaha RBX170 Bass:

This Bass is for beginners and pros. This Bass has awesome sound and great pickup. The sound has no weird sounds to it unless you put your finger right on the frets then it makes a buzz sound. The pickups are great to rest your finger on. If your a pick player you can rest your wrist on the curved edge. The shape is great to. It really fits your calf well. It looks cool also. When you want a Bass that is looks good and is a great player this is the Bass for you. It's got Looks, Play, Rocks!

Comments about Yamaha RBX170 Bass:

Now I don't need to set a high budget when I buy a new bass, I don't even have a bass amp and it is still great, all I have at the moment is a little first act guitar amp and I can still get a great tone out of the guitar, I cant wait to see what it will sound like when I get my new amp.

Really good

By Wil tarantino

from Albany, NY

Comments about Yamaha RBX170 Bass:

For such a low price, I'm really surprised how well the intonation is and the bridge is good and has a good range for the saddles to move. Very lightweight which I like and I couldn't live without the 24 frets.. 21 isn't my type. Its good bass all around and the sound is really good for sucha a cheap bass. A good set of strings will make it sound like hundreds of dollars more than its really worth. I recorded through a DI at a studio a while back and it sounded great which was really surprising.
