In 1956, Walter Hofner had an idea for an amplified semi-acoustic bass. When it was brought to life, his idea resulted in a bass with a warm, woody, double-bass-like amplified tone. Many players revere Hofner basses for their historical significance as well as for their smooth, sweet sound and playing ease that eludes most ordinary basses.
Because the original bass guitar had become so scarce and expensive, popular demand compelled Hofner to re-create the Club Bass 500/2. The new Hofner 500/2 Club Bass shares the feel, tone, and many features of the Hofner Vintage '63 but with a more traditional guitar body profile and a single cutaway.

Great bass , I've owned one of these reissues for about a year now, action was high when I first got it, but I had it lowered, switched the flat wound strings it came with to round wound and now it plays like a dream, so many great tones from this band, cuts thru everything too! short scale neck, very light, very comfortable ! Best bass I have, not for slappers though ....highly recommended !

I had been searching for a Club Bass for years and finally found a new one in a London music shop this summer. The new reissue plays and records really well. My only gripes are the fret finishing leaves a lot to be desired (and filed), and the strings don't quite line up with the pole pieces on the pickups. Still, it is a wonderful, light and warm sounding instrument.

I've been using my club bass for about 30 years and still love the tone . It is so sweet and records very well. There is no mistaking the sound produced by this bass. The wood tones make it so mellow and deep that only a Hofner could bring about the sound. I've put the club thru a zoom 9030 in the fretless setting, and wow ,it is then a perfect fretless sound when combined with it's wonderful wood tones. I presently use it in a country band.

Years ago Hofner offered this model bass. Its light weight,the finish is flawless, the sound is the same vintage Hofner sound as the Beatle Bass! For those who want a more classic design, this is it!
