I've been around Fender basses for a lifetime. I've always had my eye on this bass. It is easy to play and has great punchy tone. The MIJ quality is super (that's where they make the Lexus). The bass is very bright, but that can be dialed out with the tone control. Fit and finish are excellent. The truss rod was set very well at the factory, the action a little high. It is very retro looking and fun to play. The tonal range is huge and with the right amp settings it will do just about anything. I don't see this one for slap-n-pop though. The strings are very close together. This bass looks great and screams Fender vintage vibe. Huge bang for the buck too! WOW!

Buy it, I fell in love with it when I first picked it up. The short scale can prove annoying at times, but generally this is an amazing bass! The split pickup sounds nowhere near as weedy as the picture would have you believe, it has the brightness of a Jbass, and the punch-you-in-the-face-ness of a Pbass. Some would argue that the vintage versions are better, but I honestly believe that Fender has re-thought the mustang, and smoothed out the cracks from the original design. (My friend has a vintage mustang, and he prefers the action and bridge on mine) only problem with the shortscale, is that it needs a BIG amp to cut through a drumkit. But, if like me you have a 300 watt Ampeg, that shouldn't be a problem.

Fantastic Insrument!
Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:
I picked up one of these MIJ reissue Mustang basses a few months ago. I can honestly say this is my favorite bass I've ever played in terms of feel, playability, and craftsmanship. There are absolutely no dead spots on the neck. The finish is perfect, fretwork is second to none, neck is super comfortable to play, and the truss/action set up super low with no buzz. I strung mine with fender flats and it is a beautiful pair! A few weeks ago I installed one of Fred Hammon's Dark Star pickups on it, in place of the stock pickup. Don't get me wrong, the stock pickup and electronics are really nice on these basses, I'm just obsessed with Dark Star pickups and they're a completely different animal. Seriously though, if you want an absolutely excellent short scale bass, go with the Mustang. The value is incredible.

Fender Mustang Bass
Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:
This is a great bass. It is light and easy to play. The sound is great for a short scale bass. I especially liked it because I have smaller hands and can play much faster with this bass. The color and quality is excellent.

simply great
Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:
Easy to learn to play bass on the Mustang. Lightweight and managable for petite players like me. The mustang hangs right in there with the telecaster players in my band! Originally thought it would be my "learner" bass, but I love playing it so much I'm not planning on replacing it.

mustang
Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:
I got this bass for my birthday. I'm in love with its looks, and its great for 60s/70s rock. The only problem that I've found was that when you play past the 12th fret, the sound is a little fuzzier. Other than that, a sick bass! Since it's short scale, I thought it would be hard to adjust, but not at all. It's also the lightest bass I've ever picked up. If your thinking of buying it..go for it!

Nice update of a great bass
Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:
I prefer short-scale basses and have acquired/played many of them. I have several vintage Mustang basses in addition to a new one. Compared to the vintage ones, the re-issue has a slimmer neck and punchier tone. It is great for playing with a pick, as I do. Its light weight makes it ideal for long gigs, and the scale is comfortable for those of us with smaller hands. The quality is excellent. Some people think that short-scale basses lack sustain, but that is not true of the Mustang. With proper amp adjustment, you'll get plenty of sustain and bottom. I string mine with GHS Brite Flats (medium-scale, not short-scale, because of the load-through-back bridge).

easy to play, sounds bigger than it is
Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:
I love this bass! It's so much easier for me to get around on the mustang. I'm small. It's short scale, but you'd never know it from the sound. I'm very satisfied!
