A thing of beauty, this bass will get you noticed right away. It doesn't take the Goth notion to extremes in the way a BC Rich Warlock, ESP F204 or the Warwick Vampyre does. The body shape is a classic and the sound lends itself just fine to pop, country, and blues. Three knobs shape your sound from the two TB ceramic pickups and you can dial in the just the right tone for your needs. Get a deep rumble or bring the tone up to get bounce or definition if you like to play with distortion. Because of its shape, you may want a different bass for popping and slapping technique. The Schaller tuners are great, precise, and in-line along the top of the headstock. The input jack is on the front/top side, so be careful if you're a performer who likes to run and jump when you play. Stepping on your cable will bust your input jack instead of letting it slip out. Made in Korea, no dot markers on the rosewood fretboard except for the XII inlay at the 12th fret. Dot markers along the top edge of the neck will make sure you don't lose your place. The neck is heavy as everyone else here knows; but the alder body is light to help reduce shoulder fatigue. The neck isn't as thin as an Ibanez or a Jackson, but more comfortable to grip than a Fender or Ernie Ball. This bass plays well for those who like to sling it low, and the top groove is comfortable to rest your hand on if you play without a pick. The strap buttons are a little on the smallish side, so I recommend strap locks or newer straps that aren't worn and can grip well. This Thunderbird is great for bass players who want to step up from a beginner's instrument or those who want a stylized, reliable backup bass. More a rocker's bass than a jazz/funk instrument, but a great value regardless.

I love the feel and sound of this bass! However, it is not a bass that you can hold lightly in your hands. Use of a wider guitar strap and permanent placement of strap lock at the back of the bass (comes from factory that way now) certainly helps keep neck dive to a minimum. A solid bass. I had to sell an older version a couple of years ago but I went out and bought a new one because I like the tones that I can pull from this beast. This bass is not for everyone so I would recommend you go out to your local music store and try one out before you buy one.

First and foremost, this is not a Fender bass. If you want P or J bass tones, buy one of those. This bass positively ROARS. The pickups are beefy, the neck is pretty thick, and the hardware is pretty solid for a cheaper instrument.
I play pretty heavy rock and the T-bird gets the job done every time, but it can also handle lighter stuff too. It's a great recording bass since the pickups don't pick up too much interference.
If you want to dominate the low end, this is the bass to do it with.

Im going to recommend this bass for beginners primarily because the quality compared to other basses isn't too great. The Humbuckers do emit a thunderous tone, but it seems kind of flat. It is a top-heavy bass so if you arent very strong, its gonna be a fight to keep it held up for a while. The neck is pretty thick. I dont like thick necks personally, but it will get you somewhat prepared if you want to play a warwick bass. Over all i would give this a 4.5 rating for a beginner bass. It is very reliable and it looks pretty rad too.

This is the best sounding bass i have ever played. I used to play an EB-3 SG, but when i picked up my friends thunderbird i was hooked. i love the long neck, the pickups, the style. Everything about this guitar makes me want to play more.

This is my first bass after my Ibanez Jumpstart (which is great also). The only negative about the Goth T-bird is that it is a little uncomfortable and hard to play if you've been playing something feather light with a super thin neck like Ibanez. Once you get used to it, BOOM BABY. This thing plays well and has growl to spare. I'm playing through a 35w 1x10 and I can shake my 1700 square foot house! This (next) review addresses the neck dive. I moved the back pin up about 3-4 inches and that helped a little. I move the front pin down to the neck joint and that helped quite a bit, but I didn't like the way that tilted the bass away from my body so I moved that one back to the original position. Then I went and bought a 4" suede (not slick) leather strap. Voila!! Problem solved. If it takes you awhile to get used to playing this bass it is worth it. The wildest horses make the best rides once they are tamed!

This is not a bass for everyone. It have the problem of neck-dive (if you use a leather strap it's solved), it's heavy...but it has a unique sound, you can't love it. In my opinion the "goth" look is the one that fits most with her, the celtic cross on pickguard and the XII in mother of pearl on the fingerboard (the only fret signed is the 12th.) make her look harder and really really nasty.Three knobs to shape the sound...i really really like this bass.
