The EB-0 Bass is a fine product and is well made. The fact that you can pay under $ 250.00 for a quality bass 100% mahogany construction is incredible! In another review the writer felt that the bass would cost in excess of $ 1000.00 if made in the USA! I will tell you that the guitar is flawless that I received and looks like it cost $ 1000.00! The labor rate in the Far East is worth anywhere from $ 350.00 to $ 500.00 first cost for guitar construction, therefor the EB-0 if made in the USA would have run about $ 1200.00 to $ 1400.00 if normal margins are used! A great guitar it has a super aggressive growl and has a very fast neck. I also own a Fender Jazz Bass and a Precision and the EB-0 is very responsive to playing and I use it for blues rock and rock.

Workable instrument for most levels, some flaws

I was excited to purchase a Epiphone EB-0 short scale bass guitar for casual use and experimentation. The shipment arrives well packaged from Music123 to my delight then the unboxing begins.

I was excited to purchase a Epiphone EB-0 short scale bass guitar for casual use and experimentation. The shipment arrives well packaged from Music123 to my delight then the unboxing begins.

The first thing I noticed once I pulled the instrument from the packaging is there are many finish flaws. Screws are misaligned, finish looks to be inconsistent and the pickguard feels a little haphazardly placed on the bass. We'll revisit this later.

The bass is simple by design. Volume and tone knobs with one pickup. The sounds from the bass are good. It wasn't a huge surprise that due to the scale and pickup configuration the bass lacks the type bottom end from higher quality instrument. Although between hand placement and the tone knob there is some room for tonal expression.

The setup was actually quite good. Some buzzing but all in all pretty good. This will work for me until the next season change.

Now back to the finish. Upon first inspection, the screws that set the pickup into the bass were completely striped and misaligned. The only explanation I have is just that whomever installed the pickup, didn't even try. Sure, it's a inexpensive bass but why would you created it with flaws that could have easily been avoided? The pickguard, while not a huge deal, was again created with flaws. Looks like they make these by hand according to a loose template because the edges were not uniform or smooth. As for the hardware, well, I'm sure the assumption is that this an area where corners could be cut as far as quality. And to no one's surprise, there were. The metal is cheap but clean. I have concerns about it's longevity.

All in all this is a pretty mediocre example of a entry level bass. It has an exciting design but some inherent flaws that make contribute to an overall feeling of "meh".

Cheap bass that isn't worth the money

Comments about Epiphone EB-0 Electric Bass:

The wood on these basses is so soft and crumbly, it won't even hold the bridge studds. More than half the screws are stripped on the bass I saw.

On the plus side, it plays nice, and sounds decent. But it won't last, and can't be properly set up.

I'd suggest looking at Yamaha or Ibanez, for better instruments in this price range.

Its a really great guitar

Comments about Epiphone EB-0 Electric Bass:

Well first of all Gibson, Epiphone is a very popular band. You must keep in mind that Epiphone is not worse than Gibson, its just that the inexpensive products of Gibson have the name of Epiphone. Gibson is used by many of the great guitarists and bassists. Examples of people who use Gibson are slash, Zakk Wylde, jimmy page, Pete townshend and Keith Scott. They all choose it for its tone and perfection. This product has a great price for what you're getting. The sound is magnificent and can be much better with a little professional processing. It is not heavy, it looks really sleek and nice. If you are a lefty you don't really have to worry about searching for a lefty model like this. If you just string the bass upside down its as good as a lefty. The fretboards is also a really good quality. In my opinion the Epiphone bass guitar is a great buy.

not my Gibson

By larry solomon

Comments about Epiphone EB-0 Electric Bass:

Bought a Gibson ebo in '66 as a semipro to replace my fender jazz bass. It kicked ass-very loud full of vim-vigor-drive. Sold it 2 years ago on eBay. regretted it. Bought the Epiphone for pure nostalgia sake. Still looks good & looks the same as my Gibson but the pickup is nowhere near the same. Still it's ok for use as a knockaround not to worry about bass. If you can buy the Gibson pickup-do so it will make the world of difference & would then be a superior value.

Good it is

Comments about Epiphone EB-0 Electric Bass:

I like the EB-0, I bought it about a year ago and it has been good to me. The one problem I have is that it is head heavy. I don't really want to hold the neck up that much while playing as I am sometimes trying to hit the right strings.
