About Apple
Over more than 35 years of cultivation Apple has grown into one of the most recognizable brands in the world, and it all started with the vision of two wayward high school friends. Steven Jobs and Steven Wozniak were both considered as a couple of outcasts in school, but they both shared a common interest in electronics that would soon develop into the very first Apple computer. With Wozniak's skills in computer design, and the drive and determination of Jobs, the first Apple computer was sold on April 1st, 1976 and a multinational company was born.
For more than 20 years Apple's primary focus was on the sales of personal computers, including Apple II, Macintosh, and Power Mac, but it faced some hard times in the 1990's when sales slowed. Jobs, who had left the company in 1985 due to internal power struggles, returned to the company in 1996 after Apple bought his then company NeXT, who's technology would become the foundation for the current Mac OS X operating system. Jobs would eventually return to the position of CEO of Apple and with his returned title came a new vision of better branding and simpler designs that would lead to the Apple products we know today, starting with the iMac.
In 2001, Apple moved from personal computers into designing a product that would revolutionize the entire music industry. The very first iPod was introduced on October 23, 2001. A portable digital music player, the first iPod had an easy to use interface and LED screen that made accessing your favorite music easy, and with an initial capacity of 5GB, enough to hold around 1,000 songs. Shortly after the iPod, Apple launched their iTunes Store with the capability of providing downloadable content to their new line of music devices. By signing a deal with 5 major record companies to join their new music download service, Apple opened up a whole new market for consumers to purchase and enjoy their favorite music. With over 2 million downloads in the first two weeks of it's launch, it was clear that digital downloads was going to be the new format for enjoying music.
The iPod provided a much needed boost to Apple's financial earnings, and now has spanned over 6 generations and spawned off other versions including what is currently now the iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano, iPod Touch, and the iPod Classic. Over the redesign process the iPod added in updates like a full-color screen, and the more recent touchscreen ability of the iPod Touch to expand on it's ability to offer content, and now consumers can enjoy movies, games, and millions of other types of apps from developers worldwide.
Today the name Apple is known for its precision engineering and an attention to detail that both professional users and home enthusiasts can appreciate and enjoy. Apple's high-end desktop computers and laptops have become a staple in both professional and home recording studios all around the world. While their entire innovative line of iOS devices continue to drive our day-to-day love of music.
