Good for Practice on the Road

By gtaus

Comments about Vox amPlug Bass Headphone Amp:

I bought this AmPlug Bass headphone amp because I was looking to downsize the amount of practice equipment I needed to bring on the road for practice. Just this AmPlug bass and an mp3 player thrown in my guitar case and I have all I need to practice while on the road. The sound of the amp is OK, but I find the volume a bit weak. It will do, but I would have liked more volume. I tried it on both a passive and active bass guitar, but the volume does not seem to change. It's OK for practice, but the sound volume won't fill you with passion. I have guitar headphone amps, and they don't work on bass at all, so this is a big improvement over them.

I use the Aux jack in for connecting my mp3 player. The volume on the AmPlug Bass only affects the volume on the guitar. You control the volume of your aux device by using the aux device's volume control. The aux in jack is in stereo, and the bass is mono. That's great for practice. However, if I turn up the volume on my mp3 player up a bit too loud, I can't hear myself playing bass. I wish this device had more volume, but I can live with it.

I found the effects and tone controls were OK, but I am used to more expensive devices with more control over the sound. Again, good enough for my purposes on the AmPlug.

My main objective with this purchase was to find something small enough to fit in my guitar case for practice when I am on the road. The AmPlug Bass works fine for that. At home for practice, I bought a small Ampeg BA-108 which I highly recommend and prefer over the AmPlug Bass. My stage rigs do not have a headphone practice option and I often find myself practicing late at night when others are sleeping. But if I hit the road for training, travel, etc... the AmPlug Bass with a couple sets of AAA batteries will be all I need.

Best of the bunch

Comments about Vox amPlug Bass Headphone Amp:

This little box is just the best I have used. The elimination of the guitar to box hook up is super convienient. I love this AmPlug and would recommend it to anyone. Plus the Aux. plug in is a great add on as well.

Vox amPlug Bass Headphone Amp

By Tony-Armyi

Comments about Vox amPlug Bass Headphone Amp:

The Vox amPlug is pretty neat. I've no experience with any amplug's of this type. It has volume, Gain and Tone adjustments. The battery compartment cover seems a bit flimsy and the 1/4 in. plug does not sit firmly inside the guitar slot, so it sort of spins around at times. Overal I think it's a good mini amp for practice and it sounds decent. It's too pricey, but I do reccomend it.
