The one and only JC 120

By borisg

from Undisclosed

Comments about Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus Amp:

When I first started playing guitar, a friend offered to sell me his JC 120 for dirt cheap. I said ok and enjoyed it those first few years...no complaints. I ended up selling it because I got enticed by "tubes", so I went through a pretty cool Music Man, a couple of Fenders, and some other amps. In the end I bought another JC 120 and its the only amp I play. I realized that nothing keeps your tone cleaner and clearer than this amazing amp. If I want a little tube type grit I just step on my tube screamer and I get smooth creamy tube tone a la SRV. When I want to feel some Iron Maiden shrill, I step on my Sans Amp. Close your eyes, and you'll think I'm playing a set of vintage fenders or a stack of modified Marshalls. All the tones are there.
I use other effects, but with the JC's reverb and amazing chorus. I've got 90% of all the tones I'll ever need. JC 120 I love you.

As good as it gets

By Jon Baker

from Portland, OR

Comments about Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus Amp:

There are two schools of thought on amplifiers. Some people want a "universal" amp that can (through modeling) approximate the sound of any amp ever made. And some prefer that an amplifier "just amplify". If you are of the second school of thought, the JC-120 is your boy! A true stereo unit (and you can tell) this machine delivers the most crisp and clean sound you will ever experience. It also has the advantage of being a solid state unit, but delivering a warm and full "tube" sound. In fact, people generally assume it's a tube amp. I've had players ask me where I buy my tubes, only to look confused when I tell them I haven't bought a 6L6 since 1991. The 120 is a compact unit that delivers massive sound. In nearly ten years using this amplifier, I have never had the volume over 5, and I've blown away Marshall stacks and Orange amps. Even at such ear-melting volume levels, the clean "true" sound doesn't erode. Now, by "true sound" I mean exactly what it suggests. If you play a crappy guitar, this amp will sound like a crappy guitar. But if you play a Tele, it sounds like a Tele, and if you play a Paul it sounds like a Paul. It comes with the best sounding onboard stereo-chorus you will ever hear, but couples that with the worst onboard distortion ever created. (You're going to buy a Tube Screamer anyway). The only other minor negative I've found is that when playing on the High Channel, with the Bright switch (button) set to the On position, there is kind of a hot spot if you stand directly in front of the amp. It probably has to do with the stereo channels overlapping or something, and it's not overly annoying (other people rarely notice, even when I ask). So if you're looking for an amp that has more memory than your mom's computer and can sound like a million other amps (three of which you're likely to ever use), and will take you literally weeks just to find and capture the sound you want, go find a Line-6 or similar modeling unit. If you want to plug in and play and amp that truly defines the sound you're making, The JC-120 is the amp for you.

A legend for a reason

By R-kALZ9

from Cleveland, OH, USA

Comments about Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus Amp:

Been playing for 30 years now. I am not a full-time professional musician, but I do sit in at clubs and parties on occasion and this amp fits either venue. The JC-120 is very crisp, clean and very loud when you want it to be as well as tame when you need it to be. In addition to the legendary stereo chorus, this amp is famous for being clean, some say too clean. But if you are one who truly loves the sound of the guitar, this is the amp for you. When playing for larger crowd, plug in a pair of external speakers and set them as far away from each other as the room will allow. This lets out a chorus effect that is incredible.

Roland JC120 Great amp!

By Fellow musican & friend.

from New Orleans, La.

Comments about Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus Amp:

I have owned my JC120 for at least ten years, and not once had a problem with it. I am writing this info to share my experience with the JC120, for those who are interested in purchasing one. I am a weekend musician playing with an 8 piece group. We play jazz, funk, R&B, Rock, country, we do it all. I have owned many brand name amps during my music career, from Fender amps, to Peavey, Marshall, and rack mount equipment etc. However, the quality of sound you get from the JC120 is unmatchable. It is the clearness amp available today period, and no other amp can match its Chorus sound, or let me say surround simulation. So, if you want the clean jazz, a funky clean rhythm, or a want to get rock nasty with over drive. Go for it!

Best Amp ever!

Comments about Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus Amp:

This amp is the best investment I ever made. The stereo is a cool effect and there is no chorus sound that comes close.
