Comments about Peavey ValveKing 212 Combo Amp:

I have had this amp for 4-5 months. It is still amazing! It cranks out amazing Fenderish sparkley cleans on the clean channel. The lead channel gives you everything from slight overdrive to amazing distorted sounds. It doesn't quite get to the level of the 6505 in the distortion department, but throw in a distortion or overdrive pedal and it absolutely screams! An amazing amp for an amazing price. If you are looking for an amazing amp that is super versitile this is the amp for you. It won't get the Marshall growl because it has 6L6 tubes, but if you like the EVH style sound this is it. The only problem is it is very VERY heavy, but this is the issue with all tube amps, especially with 2x12 combo amps. With only one handle it can be hard to carry around. I bought some recessed handles and put them on and this makes it much easier to carry. All in all, it is an amazing amp. I would recommend this amp to anyone.

The biggest bang for your buck!

Comments about Peavey ValveKing 212 Combo Amp:

I actually went to my local shop to buy the new JSX 212 combo...you know Joe's new signature amp. But after about half an hour of twisting and tweaking I found nothing I liked about that amp. Funny thing is we had that JSX 212 sitting on top of the Peavey Valve King 212 while I was testing it. Now that my attentions to the JSX had wained I asked about the Valve King 212 under it. The guy said yea there pretty cool. So I plugged it up and Nickeled all the EQ and gain settings. I started with the clean channel and slowly turned up the volume and suprise there was a strong clean tone to this amp...not quite a Fender twin but close enough. Now on to the gain side of things and let's see what this thing has got. The tone is strong and full bodied with a true tube warmth. Then I discovered the gain boost...OH SNAP there it is, that EVH brown sound from the early albums...and without even trying. I cranked the gain up to about 8...this thing cooks. Within minutes there were 4 or 5 guys standing around listening to me play old Van Halen riffs and commenting on what a great sound the amp had. So, poetic justice being the call of the day, we switched the Valve King and placed it on top of the JSX, at which point I proceeded to break a sweat checking it out. The gain channel is strong, well rounded and articulate. Pinch harmonics and taps ring strong and clear, (Mean Street all the way). Digging notes break up nice. The resonance and presence settings in the damping section add even more flexibility to both channels. The dial adjustable rectification adds additional flexibility to the amp's sound allowing for a variance from more vintage tone to newer hot-rodded metal with ease. Oddly enough I never once, in an hour long session, felt the need to hook some effects to this amp. It can stand alone. Finally, this is not a high dollar boutiqe amp but it is a very fair equivalent for the cost conscious. All in all, I don't think there is a better amp for the money...and nearly a $1,000.00 cheaper than the JSX...which, by the way, I forgot all about.

    Monster Amp..dirt cheap!

Comments about Peavey ValveKing 212 Combo Amp:

Wow,,,I almost bought the B-52 combo at guitar center. Glad I checked this out. Plugged in...cranked up a little gain and I was throwing down some old ZZtop...nasty dogs and funky kings sounds great on this..Then I cranked it a little more and started in on some Black Sabbath. This amp kicks out some serious tone. The clean channel is every bit as good as a fender in my humble opinion and the gain will give you anything from some dirty blues to full on screaming metal with pinch harmonics thrown in.The price is great too..a warm sounding tube amp that's built like a tank. The only thing I was Peaved (pun intended) about was the fact that it doesn't come with a foot switch. You gotta order it or hope your peavey dealer has one. It's a hell of a deal!
