Overdrive as specified by the Wyldeman him
self!

The MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal performs like Zakk. Whether on his groundbreaking work with Ozzy Osbourne or with his own Black Label Society, Zakk Wylde's guitar playing is loud, tough, and relentless. Zakk's take-no-prisoners attitude extends to his quest for tone, too. His signature ZW-44 overdrive pedal will turn your clean amp into a heavy, chunky, crunch machine. Or, use it like Zakk does and kick it in front of a dirty amp for a screaming, sustaining lead tone. 3 simple controls—output, tone, and drive—make getting up and running easy, so you can concentrate on your chops.

ZW Pedal= Great sustainer and High Gain Effect

By Isabel Navarro

from Burbank, CA

Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:

This pedal is really great if you are not even a fan of Zakk Wylde, but just a fan of metal. When you try it the first time, it doesn't change much in your overdrive channel, but a bigger difference in a clean sound, if your looking for crunch. I still find the Overdrive to be all right. The only difference is that its more sustainable, and has only a little more gain to it. I guess it's more of a solo kicker.

Like a tube screamer - but way way better for me

By Simon Brown

from Wales

Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:

This is an overdrive/boost pedal to be used in the tube screamer way, set your amp to dirty 50% GAIN or so and the smack on the pedal for a boost. Here's the good news: this pedal has way more good qualities than a tube screamer or boss overdrive. On a clean sound you get a nice break-up good for rhythm chords and riffs with nice clarity, open chord positions sound clear and punchy, very nice. Now, keep the same settings, use about 50% preamp gain and click the pedal on - the sound is tightened up slightly, sounds more cranked, you get a nice compression effect and harmonics and sustain are unbelievable - I mean unbelievable. Natural and artificial harmonics all over the place and cracking distortion that even retains a sense of clarity. Now that is what Zakk's tone is all about. The great thing is you still have a sense of your original tone. If you want a chunky, fizzy tone from a clean signal this WILL NOT do it, into a tube marshall or other cranked tubey amp it literally does turn it into a fire breathing monster. You could even do a beefy blues tone from it - versatile. Now the bad news (or good however you view it) , this pedal is ENTIRELY dependant on the sound of your amp, it takes what is there and enhances it rather than imposing it's own character on your sound. Therefore the answer is simple: try with your amp if possible before you buy. Apart from the above, which can be a good thing depending how you view it, I would recommend this pedal without reservation. It's versatile, well made and does exactly what it sets out to do. I use it with my vox ad50 valvetronix and I'm very happy. I'd keep it in my pedal arsenal for future use because of the versatility and quality of sound. For me, the best overdrive/boost pedal I've heard

great, ciean, overdrive with a tight & articulate bottom end

By Danny Augerburg-5NPAU

from New Berlin , PA (almost heaven)

Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:

This pedal will enhance what you already have. It will increase your output and gain and add a lot of sustain (it will not add a lot of artificial distortion). If you love that in- between Srat sound but can't find an overdrive clean enough to do it justice ; this is your holy grail ! This is the best pedal on the planet for cleaning-up your bottom-end (do you hear me shredders ?). If you need a heavy bottom (metal-heads) you will have to get it from some other source like your amp and speakers. On a negative note, I did experience problems with the foot switch when i first got it . But, after I broke it in for awhile, the problem disappeared and never came back. If you want to turn this pedal into a beast , put an AC Booster after it . This will give you the most articulate distortion you're gonna find anywhere.

pretty sweet

By dude

Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:

This is a pretty nice pedal for the money. It takes a lot of playing with to get it to sound right. But it is an overdrive, not distortion. So it would be a good idea to get a nice distortion pedal to go with it. The only thing I didn't like about this pedal was it gave off a whole lot of feedback. I play through a Crate GLX1200 full stack with a Custom Gibson ZW Les Paul with EMGs and it squeals pretty bad when you turn it up. If you like high gain like I do, then a noise gate pedal is a must have. I have a Boss sound suppressor, but MXR makes the Smart Gate.

Great Overdrive (Note: OVERDRIVE)

By Timi

from Robbins, TN

Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:

I bought this pesal a couple of months ago, and I really do love it. It sounds clean (meaning no hum) on a clean channel if you turn all of the knobs all the way up (or I did anyway). But this is an overdrive. I had to buy an extra pedal (Dime Distortion) to get a real heavy metal sound. I play on a bass amp (for reasons unknown) and it sounded great. But I got bored with just great...I needed effen extreme...and this pedal has it

Great Overdrive pedal

By Ron

from ct

Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:

I'm a huge fan of Zakk and with this pedal you can pin point his settings or choose your own setting. The tone varity is fantastic. Remember this is not a distortion pedal which makes the distortion itself but this pedal draws out the distortion from the amp. You can get crunchy chunky riffs and great tone and gain for soloing. This pedal isn't a battery drainer so don't have to worry about battery life. This a great overdrive pedal!

Great buy

By Califf McBride

from Tennesse

Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:

I really think this is a good pedal for those who want a really good tone. If you are wanting an instant satisfaction this isn't for you. Its more of something you have to mess with, like a continuous process of messing with it. It is a really good pedal though.

Great overdrive

By rock_dude45

from Puerto Rico

Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:

I don't know what's happening with people here.....they're comparing this OVERDRIVE with a death metal stompbox........in case u don't know.....Zakk uses this pedal in front of his dirty JCM 800.....so it increases the gain and sustain of the head......obviously u can't have that heavy sound u are looking for by just plugging' the overdrive in front of your CLEAN fender.......otherwise it's a great overdrive that makes any amp scream and it doesn't mess with your amps overall tone, use it as a gain/volume booster for solos and u will rock!, Remember this is not a SUPER Distortion or whatever stompbox...it's just a "nice" overdrive

Great stuff

By Tim G-s4Ez-

from Plymouth, UK

Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:

I am definitely pleased with this pedal, it doesn't distort your sound so you can't hear it like some high gain pedals. It seems to heavily boost your signal lifting your sound, definitely making it louder and more aggressive. Forced harmonics also sound awesome through this thing, and it's built like a rock trust me. I'd definitely recommend this to people playing metal/rock
