Ultimate riff power is yours.

This compact but powerful MXR guitar pedal is all you need to unleash the most devastating contemporary metal guitar tones ever heard. The FullBore distortion pedal turbocharges your guitar signal with lethal amounts of ultrahigh gain. This is combined with a built-in Noise Gate to knock out the noise associated with extreme gain levels while also adding definition and tightness to syncopated metal riffs.

The effect pedal's extensive EQ controls, with Bass, Mid, sweepable Mid-Freq and Treble knobs let you sculpt your tone with fiendish precision. The additional Scoop switch provides an instant high and low frequency boost that'll rumble the room while also adding clarity. Available from MXR, the world leader in analog pedal technology.

Features

 • Super high-gain distortion
 • 3-band EQ with sweepable mid frequencies
 • Tight, fast, switchable Noise Gate for syncopated metal riffage
 • Internal Gate Trigger control lets you set the Noise Gate's sensitivity

Good pedal

Comments about MXR M116 Fullbore Metal Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Plugged in my SG into the pedal into my practice amp, set the Vol around 8:30, the Treb around 3:30 and everything else between 11 & 12 & played the intro notes to Black Sabbath. Sounded just like it. The pedal is thick and has great sustain, but still retains clarity.

Comments about MXR M116 Fullbore Metal Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

The name of this pedal says it all. It is designed for metal and it delivers. I suppose you can tweak it and get some other overdive tones but I bought this for one purpose and it does it well.

Excellent Distortion Pedal for Electric Violinists

By musical_angel

Comments about MXR M116 Fullbore Metal Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Let me start off by saying that I got kicked out of a music store for using this pedal and have been banned from playing there again so, clearly, I love this pedal.

I like the MXR M-116 Fullbore Metal for several different reason. The first being it's versatility; I've played everything from Celtic Renaissance like music to shredding medal licks/riffs and was floored each time by how cool yet unique each genre sounded through it especially when you use a really clean sound amp. My favorite part of this pedal is the frequencies dial because it gives you the ability to adjust the midrange frequencies to as low as 200Hz to as high as 5KHz. This feature was heaven sent for me because I prefer to buy guitar effects over violin ones which doesn't always work out in my favor since the frequencies range of the guitar is much great than that of the violin.

That being said, I was so glad that it since it allowed me to adjust the mid to 440Hz (the mid-range frequencies of a full sized orchestra standard violin). This allowed me to finally get what I call the "sweet sexy sound of death" (and by that I mean sounds that beautiful distorted melodic metal sound you hear in bands like Dethklok, Children of Bodom, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, or Kamelot) out of my Yamaha SV-120 that I had been looking for sooooooo long. I also greatly enjoyed that you had the ability to pop the back and adjust the noise gate trigger control thus allowing you to get a nice clear distorted sound during faster progressions verse that mushy distorted sound you get form some distortion effects which makes you sound sloppy and your notes indistinguishable.

Electric Violinists, if you are looking for that sound like the bands mentioned, are sick of hunting and search for effects specific to the violin that can only certain stores, or your just starting to buy pedals for the first time then look no further you found it. I have to say that Dunlop has really opened it's customer base with this pedal and I don't know if they did on purpose or if it was a happy accident but I feel that they created the perfect pedal for the both the melodic playing guitarist and the expanded popularity of electrified traditional string instruments.

Nonetheless, I do have one thing I don't like about it. I just don't like the bypass activation or the actual pedal part of the effect pedal. This maybe just because I'm so use to the square bypass activation but I don't know.

Massive chunk factor

By jimmyb5

from Cleveland, OH

Comments about MXR M116 Fullbore Metal Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is what I've been looking for, although maybe not for the purpose it was intended. First off, it can produce low end chunk like no other distortion I've found. I ran it through my Marshall tube half stack and shook the foundations of my house. If you're looking for a gentle gain boost, this pedal is not for you. UNLESS, you want to use it as a lead boost. The best part of this pedal is the gate. You can walk around with your hands off the strings and there isn't so much as a peep until you hit the strings. This makes it great for searing leads. While the chunk is fun, it's the gate and searing leads that work best for my distortion needs. buy it, and wake the neighbors.

This Pedal Rocks!

By Everydayfaith

Comments about MXR M116 Fullbore Metal Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Great pedal! It's surprisingly smaller than it appears in the pictures--they've packed a ton of features in a small package. With all of the adjustments available you can get a variety of tones with this thing. I run a Les Paul Studio and a Blues Jr. and it's amazing the amount of metal crunch I can get now. If you have a half or full stack I assume that it will sound even fuller. This pedal is also good for long, sustaining notes and sounds great with a delay. The tone of this pedal is surprisingly "musical." It's more than just the typical, in your face metal distortion. I normally run the gain at the 9 or 10 O'clock position, but turn it past 12:00 and step back. Also, it runs perfectly with a 1-Spot power supply on a chain without any added noise. Plus, it's dead quiet when off.
