MXR

This unassuming little box shovels out enough low frequencies to scare a blue whale.

The MXR Blue Box takes your guitar signal, fuzzes it up, then duplicates it 2 octaves down. You control the output and the mix between the dry signal and the effect. Using it 100% wet is quite an experience, but more recognizable sounds appear as you dial in more dry signal. The Blue Box is known for having a chaotic personality that can make each session a totally unique experience!

Here are just some of the people who are using this box: John 5 - Rob Zombie; Mick Thompson - Slipknot; Munky - Korn; Jimmy Page; Tim Skold - Marilyn Manson; Jay Baumgardner - Producer Zakk Wylde; Geordie White - A Perfect Circle.

Features

 • Power: Single 9 volt battery or Dunlop ECB-003 AC adapter
 • Controls: Footswitch toggles effect on/bypass (red LED indicates on)
 • Output knob sets total output gain

Crazy-Cool Effects Pedal!

By Dulcimerist

from Billings, MT

Comments about MXR M-103 Blue Box:

The MXR M-103 Blue Box is a combination octaver/distortion pedal, with a bit of pitch modulation thrown in for extra insanity. When played without other effects, it sounds like an Atari 2600 on a rampage! Combined with a slow and deep chorus and a bit more rock distortion, you can get cool sounds similar to '70s rock or even a bit like '60s psychedelic. This is not a polyphonic pedal, so chording with this box doesn't work too well. Use single notes for best results; and use chorus, delay, or harmonizer pedals later in the effects chain to flesh out your sound. I've also tried MXR and DigiTech phasers with the Blue Box, with fun and interesting results! Keep the Blend knob around the 10 or 11 o'clock position for less randomness and a bit more control over your sound. The Blue Box is built tough, and is a lot of fun to use! This pedal is a great value; and provides unique sounds for rock, metal, industrial, punk, alternative, and experimental music!

Beautiful

By Brenden

Comments about MXR M-103 Blue Box:

This pedal is perfect. Its built like a brick. The effect is sort of a fuzz octave. It is not an every song pedal, though. When it fits the song though, it is great. I gave it four stars because the output is quieter than playing without it. I'm sure there's some kind of mod to fix that somewhere...
