Great amp

Comments about Marshall 1987XL Vintage Series 50W Tube Head:

I got mine 2-3 years ago and absolutely love it. Very complex tones. This thing is extremely loud! Do not underestimate how loud this thing is. But is does sound very good. It is very responsive to pick attack. Pick softly and it can clean up while digging in hard will break up. Definately hear AC/DC tones as well as VH tones....but it is hard to get to VH tones without an attenuator. It has lots of harmonics. Not really any clean tones, it basically does "clean with a little dirt"....which i love! This amp takes pedals very well. I have tried many OD pedals in front of it and they all sound good. I played this through a 1960a cab and 1960ahw. Both sounded good..but different. I mainly play the 1960ahw now. I highly recommend this amp for serious players. But be warned:This thing is extremely loudThis amp will not cover up poor playingThis amp is very responsive to pick attackAlso rolling back your guitar volume will clean up very nicely. Definately recommended. If you take a little time to dial it in, you can find awesome tones.

" The HOLY GRAIL "

Comments about Marshall 1987XL Vintage Series 50W Tube Head:

The Marshall 1987x is amazing. I've owned many Marshall heads in the past (JCM 800-JCM 900- SL-X - Artist -) This tone monster smokes them all. This has got to be the loudest 50 watts I have ever heard. I've played with others who use Boogies and other tube amps.....and the 1987x kills them in volume and most important.....TONE !!! I can't say enough. I slapped a Vox Satchurator at the front of the amp and a delay, and everwhere I play (Live or studio sessions) I get people asking how I am getting that tone? It really is an amazing amp. Jim Marshall out did it on this one.

Best no compromise amp in the world.

Comments about Marshall 1987XL Vintage Series 50W Tube Head:

I first owned one of these babies back in 1970 as a teenager. It sat atop the 8-10 cab of greenbacks that it came with. I ran a '69 SG Special with P-90's through both the channels, and never had to use an effects box! I just set it at around 7 and use my volume control to do the rest with dynamics. This amp is so harmonically complex when those EL34's get cooking', and responds to your individual nuances as a player. Pick it gently, pick it hard...you feel connected to it, like you're part of the guitar/amp circuit! Unfortunately, I met up with a know-it-all Fender amp Guru in my neighborhood, and he convinced me to sell it. I tried many amps over the years, but never again did I have what I lost...until now! Two channels, all tube, and an effects loop now for you box freaks! If you like your blues raw and your Rock where it needs to be, get this Marshall head...you won't be disappointed!
