Fantastic Amps

By Michael Bryant

from San Francisco Bay Area, CA

Comments about Kustom Tube 12A Practice Amp:

I bought two of these and run a stereo pod between the guitar and amps. These things have tube crunch and superior clarity. Maybe the best I can say for these is this: People hear me play and when they get close enough to see what my setup is, they say, "You get that sound of these little amps?!!". They can't believe it! I just laugh. Much of the time, I use the Nady mini-mixer in front of a Zoom table pod so I can run a mic and guitar both into the pod, then into the two amps. I do not use these for recording as there is a slight buzz when using the onboard gain and shift switches. I do and can record with them if I don't use them. I'll never sell these. Ruby tubes into Celestions?! Truly amazing!! FenderFlyer Ahhh.. The Music ...

50/50

Comments about Kustom Tube 12A Practice Amp:

This little amp is solidly built and LOUD. Mine has the tweed cloth and nice looking chrome knobs. If you're NOT within the 99% of guitar players who are anal about sound, its a great little practice amp. Sound wise, it needs help. To me, it sounds like theres a wet towel over it, no matter how you adjust the bass & treble, and I'm using all Gibson, so the guitar is NOT the issue. The gain on full is way too much for me; good for that real heavy stuff. Set lower maybe up to 3 is more my style. I would recommend using an MXR 10 band EQ or that new Boss FDR65 pedal in front of it. I have tried both and found a good sound. Overall its a decent amp for the money... if you already have any of these pedals I mentioned or similar, you're set.

fun experiment

By astrotoby

Comments about Kustom Tube 12A Practice Amp:

I bought a couple of these things last week, and I've been having fun with them. I lined them both out of my DD5 and ran them stereo, just for a fun experiment. They actually sound really good for what they are, and they're pretty loud even on their own, so with both of them going a person definitely has enough volume. These are actually gigable amps. The clean channel is nice and ringy, and I actually like the gain channel. I don't use it, but I like it. There is a ton of gain on these things by the way, it's sort of over the top. Anyway, they are cool. I can't believe how cool they are compared to how much I paid for them. They sound like little amps because that's what they are, but that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing.

food for thought

Comments about Kustom Tube 12A Practice Amp:

Just for the record, this isn't a real tube amp. It's still a good price however, especially for newbies. Just so you know the Kustom is using the 12AX7 for the pre-amp, but everything else is solid state. As long as you like the sound you are set, but don't get mislead by the vague description. For a real decent tube amp with a low price tag try a Epiphone 10watt. They carry it here!

A 5 star amp for this price range.

By John-yw6jy

from California

Comments about Kustom Tube 12A Practice Amp:

I've had this amp for about eight months or so now, and I'm still glad I bought it. I think it's the best amp in its price range--better than my 10-watt solid state practice amp. Dollar for dollar this amp stacks up to the Marshall. The clean channel is its strongest point. Loud and crystal clear. It delivers rich acoustic tone. The overdrive channel is great, too, but can get a tad harsh at high gain levels. That's why I usually use an overdrive/distortion pedal on the clean setting. That really tidies everything up. The bottom line is that for this price, you're hard-pressed to find anything better.

hello

By jack-F4nux

Comments about Kustom Tube 12A Practice Amp:

for the money, it is amazing. considered on its own, it's still pretty good. the distortion isn't that great, but the clean channel sounds nice for both rhythm and lead. i compared this amp to my all fender tube champ (about 6 watts). the champ sounds better of course but this amp also sounds good in comparison. it has a really bassy punchy sound. this amp hums pretty badly though. for practicing it's fine, but if you want to record it it hums too loudly. for clean i give it a 4.5,distortion a 3, overall (because of the hum) a 3.5

Good clean but don't touch the button!

By V. Taylor

from In the middle

Comments about Kustom Tube 12A Practice Amp:

The clean channel is outstanding - smooth and warm and very pleasing. Just don't mess with the gain - solid state clipping, super-treble static nastiness. Take the money you save on the amp and buy a good overdrive pedal and you'll be all set!

Sweetest amp for the price!

By Mike-NEh.Q

from Clinton, IA

Comments about Kustom Tube 12A Practice Amp:

Even though I've only had this amp for a week or so, it only took me one practice to hear the difference between this and about anything out there in this price range. You get Celestion sound, even-order harmonics (not harsh) due to the Ruby 12AX7, and more volume than you'd first think with 12 watts. I wrestled with buying a similarly-priced Marshall, but am really glad I went this route. Look into it before deciding on an amp and you may agree with me.
