Comments about Hughes & Kettner TubeMeister 5 5W Tube Guitar Amp Head:
Great warm clean and big tones, even at lower volumes, and even with the stock tubes. No boxiness and no papery speaker whipping here-- this puppy is muscular and bossy in driving everything I've plugged it into. My standard rig is now this head with a 2x10 cab with Celestion golds. Good range without mud, and the bass, treble and midrange knobs all have high effective impact on the tonal signature without ever dropping you in headache territory. The built-in overdrive has a fairly nice range of tones, but I get more resolution in breakup and a bit better pick-pressure response driving the clean channel with treble-mid boost and overdrive pedals up front. I am very happy with the tones I get from this amp both with humbuckers on a Les Paul and single coil pickups in a Tele. It was an awesome steal for the price I paid. After a couple weeks of playing in I warmed up the preamp a bit more with an EHX 2AX7.
