Comments about Genz Benz Black Pearl 1X12 Combo Amp:
I am one who cares about having great tone. This amp nails british distortion with a sweet smooth breakup. Sounds amazing loud and at 30 watts you can reach distortion at reasonable levels that won't result in police visits. ' Does not do clean very well, at least compared to classic fender clean tone. Compared it to a 63' fender blackface Reverb amp and the Black Pearl had to run home cryin' with tail tucked between its legs. Also, one channel only, no switching from clean to overdrive with this amp. The boost pedal sort of fills that role but I find it is less than ideal and not really usable for that purpose. A bit overpriced, the internal components, i.e. the chassis is made in Taiwan. Assembled and final QC check in the USA. Sort of like a Vox deluxe with some nice extra features. The red fang is an excellent speaker. I have found in a band situation in any type of open air/ large space venue I am wanting a slight bit more power. I am one that prefers not to have to run through the PA. The 2X12 model might be the answer for that. If you can get it for a good price it is a decent amp.
