A great combo with added features.

It wasn't easy for Bob Gallien to make a great bass amplifier even better, but he has managed to do just that with the introduction of the Micro-Bass Series III. A longtime favorite for session bassists such as Leland Sklar, Charlie Haden, Ron Carter, and Jimmy Earl, GK's Micro-Bass remains the industry standard for high quality compact bass amplification in and out of the studio. This particular model is the same as the MB150S-112 but has the addition of a footswitchable bass-specific chorus effect that only affects frequencies above 150Hz, giving you a little more "grrr" to your tone.

Features
  • Constructed of 0.1" aluminum chassis with an 18 gauge steel grill

Sweet, Sweet sound, great features, amazing size

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB150E-112III 150W MicroBass Combo Amp:

This amp is what every bass player dreams of - an amp that sounds great, has plenty of power, but is small and easy to carry around. With a shoulder bag, I can carry my upright bass, my stool and my amplifier from the car to the stage in one trip. Has a very warm sound, and easily has enough power for even medium to large size auditoriums - I had a buddy with one of these that used it in a pops concert with a full orchestra and sounded great. Very quiet operation, even with gain and output volume all the way up. With the EQ controls, it is possible to achieve a variety of sounds, but most of the time I just keep all the knobs straight up, running the bass through un-eq'ed. Does not have on board effects, but has an effects loop. Have never needed it, but there is an output for an extension cabinet if you need more power, or you can bypass the internal speaker entirely and run two external cabinets. Again, I have never used it, but it's nice to know it is there for a "just in case" scenario. Has been 100% reliable for 10 years. I love this thing.

the standard for acoustic bass, okay for electric, too

By

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB150E-112III 150W MicroBass Combo Amp:

I have been using this amp for about 7 years with my string bass (and a Realist pickup), and never had the least trouble getting a sound, with feedback, getting heard over enthusiastic drummers, or maintenance. Lately I've been using it with a Warwick Thumb 5-string, and seems very good for this, too, especially at lower (club level) volumes. Although there are some smaller one-piece amps that may be as good or better for electric bass, this one's hard to beat for acoustic. It's what all the cats use, and there's a good reason for that!
