Perfect practice amp

By DarrenD

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Amazing small practice amp, particularly for the price. The amp modeling is really nice and the include FUSE software lets you create just about any tone you can imagine-- it's very similar to how Amplitube software works, letting you choose an amp, stomp boxes, rack mount effects, etc. to create the sound you want. Also it's easy to browse the Fender site and download tones other users have created. There's even the all presets from the larger versions of this amp on the Fender site that work just fine in this little version of the amp line.

I am using it both for guitar and bass-- the 59 Bassman emulation works great for bass and at the solo practice volume I use there's no speaker rattle through the little 8 inch speaker.

The amp is also very light weight, making it easy to grab and go if you need to. Add in an MP3 input to practice along to, plus a headphone out as well for silent practice, and you can't go wrong.

Nice little practice amp

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

After having this for close to 4 months I can say i'm very happy with it. Some presets have not been changed because they either sound good without doing anything, or I don't use them.

Fuse - The best thing about this amp is Fuse. This is my first bought amp (my first electric came with an amp in the deal) and although I haven't played any expensive amps and pedals I gotta say the effects you can tweak on them sound pretty good. If you're not using Fuse you're not even getting half of what the amp is capable of.

Overall sound - I can't speak on the last 3 channels (more modern ones) because I rarely use them because that's just not my main style of music. All the other channels get used most of the time, though. With the right dialed in effects it sounds suprisingly deep for a $100 moddeling amp.
It can get plenty loud enough if you want to crank it and play loud in your bedroom/house, but I mainly use it at 3-5 master volume so I don't disturb anyone in the house. It's wonderful if you are playing at night when people are asleep because it can sound good quiet or you can use headphones.

Overall a solid 9/10 amp for the price

fun and versatile

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

About Me: 9 months of guitar experience, playing a cheap Stratocaster knock-off. Bought the Fender Mustang I four months ago. Favorite genres are punk, hard rock, and classic rock but I play a bit of everything.

Volume and Size: The 20 Watt Mustang is the perfect size for me: not too loud alone in my bedroom but loud enough for jamming with friends. Good for a quiet drummer. Also very lightweight: about as heavy as my laptop.

Modeling System and Presets: The amp comes with 24 presets, some very good and some not so good. The huge variety always has something very close to what Im looking for.

Clean Presets: Sounds amazing. Every little detail is clearly articulated. None of the models sound exactly like the original Fender tube amps, but unless you have them side-by-side you won't notice. Generally, the Mustang is clearer and more articulate but has less character.

Dirty Presets: One of my favorite bands is AC/DC. Songs like "Highway to Hell" sound very good through the Mustang: crisp, raw, and powerful. A great feature on the Mustang is the two separate volume controls, "Volume" which affects the modeling and changes the sound and "Master" which raises the volume without changing the sound. This allows very cranked, breaking sounds at any volume.

Effects Presets: There are all sorts of combinations of tremolo, vibratone, delay, reverb, and just about everything else. All my friends love playing with the effects and presets on my amp. Its pure, simple fun.

Fender FUSE Computer Software: Very well laid out piece of software: very good for experimenting and learning about different effects and for dialing in the perfect sound. You can change just about everything (order of the different effects, the cabinet, BIAS and SAG, noise gate, different models for the same type of effect etc, etc). There is also a large online database to search for presets, but I rarely use it because its so easy to make my own preset.

On Board Controls: By far the worst thing about this amp. All the effects are in two banks only labeled A1 through D3, so you need to remember what goes where. Even changing the Bass and Treble is difficult because the physical locations of the knobs don't necessarily match the settings the amp is using. The only things that are easy to do are to switch through presets, change the master volume, and use the onboard tuner. Not a huge problem though because I'm usually either near my computer (USB cord is about six feet long) or already have the right preset saved to the amp.

Reliability and Durability: I've had this amp for four months, done car trips with it, and never had anything break. The one issue I had was for the first week the bass response was very muddy and unclear but this problem completely went away so I guess it was just breaking in a new speaker.

Overall: Great amp, huge variety, lots of fun, good sound quality and well made. However, the on board controls are limited so dont buy it if youre not going to have it near your computer most of the time. A great amp for beginners and a fun toy for experienced players.

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

The Fender Mustang I is one great amp, light on the wallet and easy to carry around The Mustang I amp has very acurate sound modeling for that Fender tone the presets are easy to use and remarkable when you switch from the Fender 65 twin reverb to the bassman there is a very detailed reproduction of each individual amp I have often used a fender 65 twin reverb and the mustang sounds just like a vintage twin without the weight or the cost! add the good looks and the USB connectivity and programing recording ability with internet support and added presets makes this amp a wonder put it on stage on a stand with a microphone and you will have the sound that is famous world wide.

Impressive Little Fender !

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

First of all let me say....I didn't need this amp. That being said, I couldn't resist owning it. I have a Crate 10W practice amp that works fine. However after reading reviews and then playing with this amp for only a few minutes, it became obvious that it is replacing my Crate. This little 20 watt amp seems to have a lot more power than stated. It also doesn't distort much at full volume like other amps this size. It has so many sound options built in, and is very easy to work with.

Plus, with the added software for your computer the possibilities are endless. (By the way, the USB cable is included in the box). Fender has done a really good job of modeling some of their most famous amps. The amp is well built in the Fender style, and the switches and buttons appear solid. I am very much impressed with this little amp. Fender quality at an off brand price. And it's just plain FUN !

Final thoughts: This amp has a lot of electronics, lights, switches, and buttons. There is a slight possibility that something could fail. At least take a good look at it for yourself.
