FENDER METALHEAD 550

By Davie Garden

from Glasgow, Scotland

Comments about Fender MH-500 Metalhead Guitar Amp:

Hi, I'll keep this short and sweet. I got the 550 head and both stack cabinets and let me assure you the is NOTHING louder, it is serious. Get one of these and there's a good chance the other guys will throw you out of the band. BUT, if you have a drummer who goes crazy on the kit when it's YOUR solo, then get one of these.

A good solid amplifier

By Will Ackerman

from Oregon, Ohio

Comments about Fender MH-500 Metalhead Guitar Amp:

I've been playing through the Fender Metalhead for about 5 months now and I've had minimal complaints about it. I'm very picky about my tone, but I've found this amp can dish out the clear, crisp clean tones and really crunchy metal tones you want. I wasn't too fond of the tight drive, but it may be a good classic rock/blues tone? I push my lead tone on this amp with a generic tube screamer, and run through a sonic maximizer by BBE and a TC electronics G-major. This amp has very heavy tone, lots of presence and crunch if you want it, and clear, crisp lead tones. A good buy in my opinion

awesome

By chris-HJpyc

from st louis

Comments about Fender MH-500 Metalhead Guitar Amp:

When I sit back and sum this amp up with one word....the only word that comes to mind is awesome. The cleans are tight, not sloppy like some tube amps, the distortion at all levels is unparalled by anything Ive ever heard or played and of course this amp has an absolutely insane amount of power. I bought a Krank revolution 412 which uses 4 Texas heat speakers and rates out at a total of 600 watts power handling. (only cab Im aware of that can handle anything this beast can throw out.) So I ran both outputs of this baby into that cabinet to create more headroom thus a better sound. Im never looking back, I have the amp I need, this thing sounds great and could play the biggest night club you could think of without even being micd. You really have to play it to believe it. BUY.

Insanity

By Kevin

from VA

Comments about Fender MH-500 Metalhead Guitar Amp:

This is amp.... where to start. It is LOUD beyond your wildest dreams. You really should get the matching cab, not only for the wattage issues, but it looks so great together with head. It seems to me that the 550 watt 8x12 would be too much, but don't hold me to that cause I haven't heard it but, the 400 watt 4x12 is seriously loud. The effects are good but, there is an effects loop for a reason. Nothing beats stompboxes. Fender has effectively made a solid state Triple Rec for half the price. All 3 channels are very useful for all types of music. They all sound good. Fender has finally got me to their side of the fence. Superb amp!

The "EDSEL" of amps...NOT!!!

By James-i-nkW

from St Pete Fl

Comments about Fender MH-500 Metalhead Guitar Amp:

I couldn't even kick the tires . Noone had this amp in stock . So , by reading reviews and FENDER'S description on their site , I took a chance and ordered it . Unlike the "EDSEL" , this amp did NOT dissappoint me . The "CLEAN" has tone and body , the "TIGHT" reminds me of the Super Twin , the "LOOSE" , well , is just incredible . Volume ? Lots !! Looks ? I love it , the pictures do not do this amp justice . I have found the amp I've been looking for , I'm done shopping . I got the head with 2 strait cabs and this amp ROCKS !So people , go kick the tires hard and I guarantee you this amp will kick back .

Words can't describe the magnificence of the metalhead!

By Scott-2TP8K

from San Jose, CA USA

Comments about Fender MH-500 Metalhead Guitar Amp:

Fender has blown away the competition with the earthquaking metalhead. Also, to top it off, a solidstate amp with built-in effects makes people compare it with Line 6. Everyone now days thinks tube amps are superior because they are tube and cost a lot of money. Well, I've got news for you. The metalhead is awesome! Since it's solidstate it's light and I don't have to worry about popping my expensive tubes. The effects are surprisingly good. Even though you can't control speeds or modulations, you can control how much effect is mixed with the channel. The effects have great quality for a built in system. If you don't like it, just turn it off. The clean channel is very bassy warm and bright. The crunch channel can range from a grundgy clean to a more growling crunch. Finally the lead channel can out gain anything. I'm tired or amps where you turn a knob and hardly any change in the tone. The metalhead changes tone as you turn the knob. I also hate amps that stop getting louder at half way and past that they just sound worse. The metalhead continues to get louder up to the point where you can't turn the knob anymore. Also there sounds like it's not even breaking a sweat because it has SOOOOO much head room. With a four button foot switch and solo boost and forced air cooling unit, you just can't go wrong with a head like this. I also recommend getting the matching cab with this head because I wouldn't trust anything else to handle it's power.
