Fat and warm vintage distortion, priced for players.

In the late '70s an effects-maker in Japan produced a small quantity of what many believe is the definitive distortion box. It had delicious tonality and was highly responsive and versatile. Recently, a boutique pedal maker reissued that box at $300+. Danelectro offers you the D-1 Fab Distortion as a sonic equivalent to the prized original. It's equipped with Level, Tone, and Distortion controls. You'll adore it.

Features

  • Warm vintage distortion

My pedal came with a manual, and a 1 year warranty. The pedal has 3 different nobs:tone, Distortion, and Level. It has a very luminous LED that lights up as a violet color when the pedal is activated. It has input and output jacks at the back. The pedal also has a battery compartment, and a place to plug in an adapter. The footswitch is rather small, but if you want to use it during a concert, keep your foot on it because there is a chance of accidently missing it! Overall, plenty of features. The pedal has its unique sound. The pedal can go from blues to metal distortion. It is never fuzzy, it's smooth at a bass tone setting, and is very metallic at higher distortion levels at a higher tone setting. However, when the pedal is on high distortion mode, the distortion gets suppressed when adjusted to the bass tone level. Thats why I tend to use my amps gain and tone with this pedal. The pedal is surprisingly quiet. In addition, it doesn't produce that much crackling noise at a high distortion level. It is very strong and durable. It's made of very hard plastic, and the bottom is made of rubber and metal. The nobs seem like they will stay on. In addition, this pedal is great for travelling!I never regretted buying this pedal. And I will always use it because of its versatility. Other pedals you can get are Fab Metal, and Fab Overdrive. This one deserves a high 5!!!!

I play an Ibanez gax30 guitar (upgraded with a gfs dream 90 bridge pickup) into a vox vr30 with reverb. This pedal produces some nice tones but can be a little harsh if you're not careful. the 3 knobs it provides allows for plenty of tweakability ranging from a vintage fuzz to total distortion. It is definitely a solid-state sound so don't buy this expecting to get the warmth that a tube or tube-emulation pedal would provide. Otherwise, a great stompbox.

Comments about Danelectro D-1 Fab Distortion:

I just got this yesterday to compliment the fab Chorus pedal that I bought from here, and needless to say, I am not disappointed . this pedal blows away the high and mighty Boss DS-1 and is a mere fraction of the price. I've been playing for over 40 years, and this is without a doubt, probably one of the best distortion pedals I have ever heard. It can go from Blues to full blown Metal and has a nice, clean , tone to it without any of the muddiness. Danelectro should be commended for making such a fine product for the consumer who is on a low budget. Kudos !

Comments about Danelectro D-1 Fab Distortion:

This was the first pedal I ever bought. I just used my amp to dial in any tones I wanted before getting any stomp boxes. That of course limited my range of tones. I bought this just to learn how to use a stomp box. I figured if I screwed it up, the small price was not to high of a price to pay to learn on. But the dayum thing sounds great! I am not getting rid of it. It will have a place in my set up from now on, a stomp box costing over ten times more might sound a little better, but for now I an using this one as I don't think the one selling for 200 buck will sound ten times better!!!!!

Comments about Danelectro D-1 Fab Distortion:

got one in early 07, without knowing anything about it, and was floored by the sound, used it (heavily, many gigs, many practices, and i am hard on my gear) with no problems until late 08. then i quit playing for a while and gave it to a friend who was just learning, and i totally regretted it. i had a boss me-50 and none of the dist it had could touch the d-1. so i got another one, 15 months ago, zero defects on this one also. fast ship, great serv from m123, i plan to buy and store a couple more so i will always have one in my rig. ive used and owned a lot of gear (many dist pedals incl boss me, ds1, tube screamer, tube driver, boss metal z, and the d-1 puts them all to shame, believe it or not the only one that was close was an old zoom multi that i had in the mid 90s), and this is the sound for me combined with a good tube amp (although it sounded wicked through a couple of different small 70s solid state combos i used to have also)...its like the sound i hear in my head when i think of so many classic recordings. dont let the price or plastic fool you, this pedal is IT!

        Great product, sound, and price.

Comments about Danelectro D-1 Fab Distortion:

I got this pedal about a week ago and I am happy with my decision. The sound that this thing produces is amazing, I play a 1968 Gibson SG and it sounds great with the distortion between 2 and 4. I was originally introduced to it by a member in my band but I found this pedal really affective to the tone that the guitar produces, and if you like metal, blues, rock or all the other sounds this produces, I suggest getting this. Also the reasonable price, Ive had about 5 other effects pedals and none of them worked as good as this one.

        Great Sounding Pedal

Comments about Danelectro D-1 Fab Distortion:

I got this pedal a few weeks ago, it was also my first distortion pedal, andits going to be the only one I ever need. AMAZING sound for an unbeatable price. I personally like the sound when you turn the tone and distortion just a little past halfway, it gived you a very rich crunchy, 50's sound. I also reccomend the Danelectro FAB Metal Pedal, great screeching sound and it only adds more distortion, and who doen't love more distortion?

This pedal rocks. I am a beginner on the guitar, but for the price, this pedal distorts all you want. I am having a blast with it. A huge value. Plus my order arrived in 2 or 3 days. Thanks 123.

        Forget about Boss, get this

        By Edmund

Comments about Danelectro D-1 Fab Distortion:

The title says it all. I owned both Boss distortion pedal and this one and I don't hear any difference. Only difference is that these little things are made of plastic (you won't be able to break it if you're less than 500 IBS) Do yourself a favor and DON"T pay 5 times or more money... I can't believe how affordable these things are!!!

This puppy is the elite among the bargain priced boxes. It'll crunch, warm up or scream even at low volumes. A little noisy but easy to clean up. It's sturdy enough if you're acting grown up.

Great value, good light overdrive sound

        By just me

        from nj

Comments about Danelectro D-1 Fab Distortion:

I like the light distortion/overdrive sound that you can get by turning the distortion down to 2 or 3 on this unit. The higher distortion from this box does not do it for me; but I think in this case the tonal characteristic that makes it sound good light, does not sound good heavy. For the price pick one up.
