The Boss PS-5 SUPER Shifter Pedal does what no other compact pedal has done before: shifting (basic or intelligent), harmonies, de-tuning, and a variety of whammy-type tremolo arm effects. Simple knob-based controls. Can be used with an optional expression pedal to shift pitch in real time.

Well, I was excited when I found out Boss made a pitch shifter pedal, since I've been waiting for someone to make one in a unit besides Eventide or another high-end manufacturer at a reasonable price(for me, at least). The first thing I have to warn people about is that it does make the sound very synthetic when in the detuned, harmonist, and pitch shifting settings. Now, on the other hand, almost all of the units I have ever heard use any sort of pitch shifting sound that way to me, and frankly, when I use it, that's really the effect I'm going for anyway. Still, the detuned setting sounds nice used in conjunction with a single-coil pickup-equipped guitar, not quite on par with a Danelectro, but pretty good nonetheless. The harmonist setting is great for those of us who actually know our music theory, but even still, it seems to bug out on certain notes in certain scales(the few that I know), where the root note and the harmony are completely dissonant. Shoot, maybe I just don't know what key I'm playing in(stranger things have happened). The pitch shifter, along with the detuned setting, is probably the strongest asset of this little box. The only thing is that I really wish Boss had not included the tremolo arm and flutter settings and instead given more pitch shifting options, such as th 2nd, 3rd, 5th, etc. This really would have sent this thing over the top and made it much more useful, and would probably have made the harmonist setting obsolete for the most part. Still, it's the only decently priced unit I've found so far that does any pitch shifting.
I recently purchased the BOSS Super Shifter and I have never had a dull moment! With simulating 12 string guitar work and de-tuning methods you will enjoy countless hours of diversity in your sound. Harmonics are also a joy to have on board. It's really all here on this one!
