This is an excellent pedal. There is no way around it. I'm a huge metal head and this pedal is so customizable that I can imitate the sound of James Hetfield to Kurt Cobain in just seconds. I'm sure there are better pedals out there, but for the money, this is the best pedal I've seen. And not only is its distortion excellent, but it's very durable too. I have yet to make a ding or scratch in this while my last Danelectro distortion pedal got crushed and the knobs had fallen off. If this is in your price range, then I think this is about the best you can do. And that not bad at all.

This pedal is good but not the best. If you're looking for the best metal pedal, I suggest buying the metal monster from guyatone. The metal monster has a built in tube. You can get so much more out of this pedal too. It is a lot more crisp and the notes are more rich in tone. It can replicate sounds from metallica to the blackest of metal.

First time buying a Boss effects pedal, and love it!

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

I never use any extra distortion or effects. I thought the line 6 pod was the best there is out on the market. The line6 is good for studio and at home use. While the line6 may offer more. This is perfect for metal, grunge, classic rock tunes. I would definitely recommend this to any metal player. It's a great live piece. Easy to set up, great sound effects, etc...

Not my first choice

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

I must start this review by stating that I love the distortion from my Engl amp. I bought this pedal to use in a back-up pedal board if I played somewhere where I wouldn't be able to bring my amp or have access to a good tube amp.
There is no shortage of gain with this pedal! It cranks loud too. The tone is a bit lacking though. It is thin and not warm at all. Very digital and "industrial." Chunky rhythm stuff comes through pretty good but leads are thin and weak. No comparison with my amp. I have fun with it but I would never record with it unless I was using it for some kind of specific special effect.
I have replaced this pedal on my back-up board with an MXR Double Shot Distortion. I'm not totally satisfied with this either but it is way better than the Boss. Much warmer tone plus it's like two pedals in one.
In short, the MT-2 is not all that great but it really is unfair when my basis for good distortion is an Engl amp. It's more like a toy that I have fun with every once in a blue moon but I would never use it on a regular basis.

More versatile than you think!

By Jim-ag_pB

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

This pedal isn't just for metal and guitars with insanely hot humbuckers. I use this with a small Fender tube combo amp and a Telecaster with a single-coil P-90 in the bridge. And it just SINGS. I love it..nothing "fake" sounding about it. Different pedals react differently depending on the amp/guitar/pickups. What doesn't work for some sounds absolutely glorious for others. The key is playing around with the equalization. I can get killer blues and classic rock tones out of this as well; it's just a matter of knowing your gear. Spend some time with it all..don't throw it out because you didn't get a tone you like in two seconds. I've been playing/gigging for over 20 years and have been through many distortion boxes..this is still one of my all-time favorites and is a mainstay on my pedalboard. I can get some really down n nasty Billy Gibbons/Leslie West/Ace Frehley like tones out of this thing.

great for all metal n' hard rock.

By mark-NDsh.

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

i have used this thing since i started playing 8 years ago. i love this thing. it sounds great on its own, but i use this thing running through 2 mxr 10 band eqs. (btw the mxr 10 band eq is another good product) one is for my low end n' rhythm channel. the other is used for my soloing. so many people complain that this thing is not good, i think they just dont know how tone works, or understand the acoustics sourrounfing them. so many people complan about this pedal because of the ear pericing tone, well isnt that what metal is all about? i also get a nice iron maiden n' ac/dc n' good classic rock n' blues sounds. this is a must have. i hope to god that they never discontinue this model. its too good.

I love this thing

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

I have tried many other pedals,(Metalcore, Krank, Digitech, etc) but this on has the sound I was looking for without a lot of hum added in. It has a great buzzsaw sound to it without making you music muddy.

AMAZING!!!!

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

This thing is CRAZAY!!! I just got it a few hours ago and Its been hard to stop using this awesome pedal. Its got a great variety of tones in it and even with the distortion knob turned all the way down you still get a fairly heavy sound from it. The only downside to it is that it gives a whole lot of feedback but I'm not sure if its the pedal or my amp. Either way a decent buzz reduction pedal should fix that and I'm still EXTREMELY happy with it.

If your a metal head

By Petronis

from Pahrump NV

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

If your a metal head who wants gritty tone, BUY this pedal. If you want smooth distortion DON'T BUY this pedal. This pedal really has the sound of metal on metal grinding. I've had a hard time getting the right tone out of this pedal because of the fact that I'm not as much of a metal head as I was a couple of years ago. I want a smooth distortion and this pedal does not produce it very well. On the other hand I've used it for ugly sounding distortions for dynamic parts in songs before and it was perfect. So it all depends on your style.

Awesome Pedal

By ShredKing

from Undisclosed

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

This is a truly awesome pedal. I would recommend this for any type of metal but it really excels in modern shred. The scooped sound is my main setting but if you roll off the highs a bit and boost the mids you can get a really fat solo tone. Some say this pedal gives you a shrill sound but you also need to consider the gear you're using. Don't expect to plug this into a starter amp and guitar and expect your tone to do a 180. If you so much as have decent equipment this will give your sound a boost. I def recommend this for heavy styles. Beats Digitech by a long shot and is built to last
