Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Stage HT-60 60W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
I guess any product that has over 30 reviews with all being 5 stars, is a sign that this is a truly great product. My quest for tone has been a 30 year journey. When I think I have it, I try and tweak it just a little more.....usually I fowl things up. Have been struggling with tone the last few years. Spending good money after bad. I recently sold a Marshall JVM combo. Just could not seem to dial it in. May have been my lack of interest to figure out the presets etc. I'm kind of a plug and play guy. Want to dial in great tube tone and play. The JVM is an excellent amp but too techie for my brain. Thus, the Blackstar HT Stage 60 purchase. I owned a HT40 a few years ago...for the money the best 40 watt you can buy. Read those reviews to confirm my impression. I wanted more power for larger gigs. Researched and came to this amp.
SOUND-the most versatile and expressive amp I have played to date. Found my sounds in a few hours. Easy footswitch, 3 channel and reverb. The cleans in both setting are great. Move the ISF and you get a fender type clean to Vox chime.
OD1- Might be my holy grail. I play a Strat American HSH and a standard Tele. Wow the tones are to die for. I put the gain at 12:00 and the volume at 12. By working your guitars volume you get a slightly nasty growl. Move the guitar volume up to 8 and your in ACDC-Black Crowes area. The sustain and harmonics are classic tube heaven. I prefer the ISF all the way to the left which is modern America Mesa territory.
OD2-You can go to full metal on this one. Moving the ISF to the right its got the Marshall tone in spades. Retains definition even as you crank the gain and volume.
Overall an outstanding amp and I believe a awesome value. This amp will stay in my line up. You can spend more but you will reach a point of diminishing returns. A lot more cash for slight improvements. The Blackstar team has been the darlings of the guitar amp world. These guys got it right. I am toying with tube and speaker upgrades but I am going to wait until this is fully broken in. In my 40 watt HT I installed JJ tubes and Eminence Red coats, it was a decent improvement but not over the top. The stock items sound really good. This is a strong choice in the 2 x 12 combo amp segment. For this type of investment a stellar standout.
