V-Amp delivers bang for buck

from Lethbridge Alberta Canada

Comments about Behringer Bass V-AMP PRO Rack Modeling Preamp:

I waited a long time to make my first processor purchase, and I didn't buy it to make my bass sound like a sitar, but for pre-amping, fattening, and sweetening.I love this unit. The presets are very useful, but it's once you get the software, the midi adapter, and dig right in that the true Coolness of the V-Amp becomes apparent. Subtle chorus and octave functions are very effective, and the onboard compressor is absolutely workable. The headphone output is slightly noisy, but other than than, I think this is some of the best bang for the buck available.Used in conjunction with a midi controller or a footboard, it's a very acceptable unit for those who enjoy subtlety and variance. One last thing.. it DOES have a definite 1 second-or-so "hitch" when changing patches, so if you plan to change patches DURING songs a lot, you either have to plan ahead, or look elsewhere. If you are like me and just like to have a variety of flavors for a variety of songs.... hey, here's your baby!NOTE: Behringer recommends the FCB 1010 for use with the V-Amp, but it's NOT pre-configured for use that way. If you do use them that way, knowledge of MIDI is going to help a LOT.

Comments about Behringer Bass V-AMP PRO Rack Modeling Preamp:

I've bought this spectacular little toy 3 month ago, and I've found a lot of incredible and real effects in this v-amp!Great cabinet and amps simulation!I use it like a multi-effect, specially for it's powerfull hi gain distortion with synth ... and it rock's!!!!It's a good thing for people like me that likes strong and real effects!I use it without amplifier and cabinets, but directly on the mixer, and i'm really happy for his quite perfect real sound, specially for its good stereo and digital outputs!LOW LOW LOW LOW COST for a GREAT GRAT GREAT GREAT FUN!!!!!!!!!!!Enjoy it!!!!

fun for the money

Comments about Behringer Bass V-AMP PRO Rack Modeling Preamp:

This is a fun little effects unit. Not really useful in a lot of ways. I have an Ampeg svt2 pro so obviously it wasn't going to do much for me. There are about 5 programs I thought were ok. Construction seems to be very good and it looks cool in the rack and it is relatively simple to use. If you can turn a nob and push a button between a-e you can use this and figure it out.

Good but not best

By K-jyrIa

from Venice - Italy

Comments about Behringer Bass V-AMP PRO Rack Modeling Preamp:

Good realistic simulations of amps and cabinets, all with it's own EQ. Good Digital Signal Processor with reverb, delays, LOOP delay, rotary and a synth. Many rear connections to insert effects, to register digital signals. Little background noise with some amp simulations when used at high volumes, a sound hole when changing from a preset to another.

The best

By Wilfredo Vazquez-d5_Bl

Comments about Behringer Bass V-AMP PRO Rack Modeling Preamp:

I know that you hear that the POD is great. I used too think so too. This Behringer Bass V Amp can do all the things that the other box can do but a lower price and it is very easy to use it and edit sounds. I have one of this monsters and I use it live and recording and it's great. Buy it in Music 123, it is the better option.

Comments about Behringer Bass V-AMP PRO Rack Modeling Preamp:

F-U-N-K-Y in all senses of the word... let's start with the looks, which are quite funky.... or at least very unique to say the least... (the picture doesn't do justice to how strange it really looks in person and it's over-all weird vibe.... and it is a bit bigger, taller than expected. This funky vibe could be viewed as positive or negative depending on your point of view I suppose). I decided to go with this version and not the cheaper plastic version because quite simply I had room on my rack and felt it would be more durable in the long run, and it does seem quite sturdy. The unit comes with built in power source and cord so it's ready to plug in and use right out of the box. As for the manual, it's documentation is not laid out well, but the info I needed was in there after careful/painful searching... okay, now the really important stuff.... how it sounds.... and how useful/fun is it.... I am playing an American J-Bass through an Ampeg Rocket solid state amp... this effects box's AMP MODELING definitely juices the solid state amp and fattens the sounds quite effectively... this is, of course, a huge plus... and the 16 effects are quite decent (especially interesting are some of the synth combinations, which are better and more playable than those I've tried on certain BOSS equipment for example).... the various combos of amp modeling and effects can result in hours of fresh sound experimentation for sure... however, the ability to access these combos is a bit... well.... once again, the word is... funky... more thought and ease of access would have been a nice plus in this area... but in the end, what do you want for under $200... anyway, I found it to be well worth the cash.... certainly some very nice and very thick crunchy funky bass sounds are just a couple dial turns away and many of them as good a quality as can be had anywhere.... I really want to stress how surprisingly excellent this unit can be in the funk bass category... it even has a P-FUNK'N effects setting to help out in this area.... but it is also fairly versatile... very decent bass-synth sounds all the way to somewhat convincing acoustic double bass sounds can be had, or just add a touch of tubey ambience to a clean sound... or growl to something too clean... also, interestingly enough, my vintage strat sounds positively amazing on many of the possible setting possibilities and many of the 125 presets.... and it's supposed to be good for keyboards as well (which I have not tried)... my 5 star rating is based primarily on value, but remember it is funky in some possibly perceived negative ways as mentioned above.... still in the end the positives out weigh the negatives... those with doubts would do well to try the cheaper plastic non-rack version at $139 and save some dough.
