Ampeg SVT CL

By David Wilson

Comments about Ampeg SVT-CL Classic Bass Head:

I have owned this amp and 810 cab for about 18 months. The unit I have now sounds great and no problems for around 6 months. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for the first 2 amps I had and my experience with their customer service was terrible. After the first replacement amp failed in a similar manner as the original unit did, I lost a lot of confidence in the quality of their amps. This was verified by the technician that I took it to. All in all, I was without an amp for more than 6 months in just over a year after the original purchase. The original amp was in the shop 2 times before finally being replaced. I was ok with that until the replacement also failed and was in the shop for more than 3 months waiting for parts. It was finally determined that the unit was also beyond repair and it was also replaced. But I had to threaten to take legal action before they would do anything even though I tried to resolve it on numerous occasions. I know I'm not the only customer with complaints against Ampeg. I regret my purchase and wish I would have chosen another amp rather than Ampeg. I also have an Ampeg combo BA HP115. No problems but less sound.

truly the real deal

Comments about Ampeg SVT-CL Classic Bass Head:

After years of amplifiers, effects pedals, and processors, I decided to just go and get the Ampeg. Best decision ever. I have matched this head with the svt 6 x 10, and it is just amazing. If you really want the tube sound, you must get the tubes, for there is no substittute. There is plenty of power to play anywhere with anybody, and the warmth of the sound is incredible. I no longer have any devices between my bass and my amp, it is not necessary. Simply put, you will not regret buying this one.

Don't try this at home.

Comments about Ampeg SVT-CL Classic Bass Head:

My first experience with an SVT and 8x10 cab was in '71. The amp and cab were awfully road worn, but it shook the whole building and sounded like the wrath of God. The current SVT I really like. It is crisp, clean, and still has that earthquake thing while sounding sweet. "Sweet" is not quite the correct word; you get the idea. Stand back. The head weighs a ton and your neighbors will hate you if you use this thing for a practice amp. Frankly, it's weirdly funny how you can blow away both the drums and a Marshall stack. Cool. Not one other way to be.

Comments about Ampeg SVT-CL Classic Bass Head:

It's a lot of money but you will never want another amp after you buy this one, trust me. I got mine almost 7 months ago and it changed my life. I will have it till my dying day. I play in a Punk/Rock & Roll band and with my SVT 6x10 I have a deadly combination. This is "THE" best Rock & Roll bass amp ever made. Because it's a tube amp, it weighs 85lbs so eat your wheaties or hire a roadie. You just can't beat the sound of this amp. I looked at a lot of other brands because I didn't know if I wanted to part with the cash but now I'm so glad I did.
