Good Uke for the Money

By GCJRB

from Undisclosed

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU5 Concert Koa Ukulele:

I have had an OU5 for a couple of years. It is very well-made, with good action right out of the box. It is comfortable to play. Some consider Oscar Schmidt ukes to be "over-built," and too quiet. The strings that came with it are not well-suited to bringing out the best sound in this instrument. I would recommend different strings (I prefer Worth Clears; they bring out a brighter tone, while still sounding somewhat warm). It is worth having as an alternative to a thinner, mahogany uke (with a more "barky" sound).

Great Sound, and looks good too.

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU5 Concert Koa Ukulele:

This Ukulele out of the box had great sound and looked beautiful. My daughter is into traditional music and the sound that came from this well made instrament shocked both of us. It is sturdy and solid. My only wish is that is came with a case to protect the coating on the instrament. If you need a Ukulele that is not electric, this is the one to get.

Beautiful Uke, but the Sound...

By Willis-ObOVz

from California

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU5 Concert Koa Ukulele:

This was my second uke. I saw this and was instantly drawn by the beautiful color of the koa wood. I was very happy with it for the months; playing on it daily and picking up chicks along the way (Oh yeah, girls dig it...and me). But, I don't think the sound is nearly as beautiful as it looks. I've played on others slightly cheaper than this and was much more impressed by how they sounded. I'm thinking about slapping on some new strings and giving it another shot. Not a bad uke overall. Recommended for beginners

Amazing Ukulele for the Price

By Joel Gerlach

from Johnson City, TN

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU5 Concert Koa Ukulele:

This was my first ukulele; I bought it because the Mitchell was out of stock. I'm so glad it was because this ukulele is far better than the Mitchell! Its beautiful laminated koa is smooth and the uke fits snugly in any arms. I have longer arms and big fingers, but I can still play this one with no problem. A negative aspect of this model (and others like it) is that it goes in and out of tune with changes in the humidity, so learning how to tune it is a plus. The sound carries far better than other ukuleles I have heard, and sounds great when placed with a mic. I recommend this ukulele 100 percent! Be sure an get the gig bag with it, though! It's worth it to have something to carry it in. Go ahead and add it to your cart!

Wow

By Collin Hill

from Fort Worth, Texas

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU5 Concert Koa Ukulele:

This uke is really great. It's much better than what I thought it'd be. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I havn't had it but for a month or so. But really, if your looking into a beginner's uke at this price range, I would recommend this uke. It has great sound, though I would get different strings than the ones that it coems with. It is pretty well built. I mean, there are like 2 very very small holes where the beams connect to the sides of the uke. Overall great deal.
