Comments about Takamine G-Series Dreadnought Guitar Case:
I purchased a Takamine GS430S G-Series NEX guitar for my daughter to learn how to play. I compared it to several other brands in the store and was impressed by the quality at that price point. For Christmas I wanted to get her a hard case for the Guitar. I first went to the Takamine website to see which case they recommend. They list the GC1128G case. It took a bit of time to find a retailer that stocked it and I placed my order. Upon arrival I opened the box to inspect the case. First surprise, the case is brown, not black. You can't tell this from the pics and there is no mention in the description. Ive never seen a brown hard case, and I dont think my daughter will mind, but some may not prefer the brown. The durahyde has some odd lines in the finish (up to 12 long. I can't really tell if they are flaws or an effort to match flaws found in real cowhide. Bottom line, it doesn't look so good. The durahyde was bubbled up in several places, especially on the bottom of the case. It looks bad. I dont know how to fix this. Where the durahyde fabric meets at a seam between the side and back, there is an oversized flap left over (about inch). It is poorly glued down, and leaves a flap hanging out that is easily snagged on objects and pulled loose. There is one strip of about 6" that is not even glued. It just looks sloppy and will take at least an hour to glue the whole seam properly. There are 8 gold screws used to hold spacers in the neck portion of the case (for the pick, tuner, holder). Four of the screws are not screwed in perpendicular to the side of the case. The screws have an integral washer that now leaves 4 sharp edges sticking up to cut or snag objects or fingers. Visually, it looks sloppy as well. I will have to re-install these screws, which won't be easy since they will try to follow the original hole as they are screwed in. This case is recommended for the G series NEX guitar, but it is probably designed for G-series dreadnought guitars. With a NEX guitar, the case is an exact fit for only 2/3rds of the lower portion of the body. The waist of the body and upper portion of the body are not even close to the sides of the case. At least the body never touches the case. Yes, the NEX will fit in this case, but if you were expecting a custom factory fit, fagettaboutit! If I had seen this case in a store, I would have never purchased it. If I had more time before Christmas, I would return this case and look for something else. As it is, I'm stuck with it and a few hours work, just to get this case functional and presentable. This is a huge disappointment for a company that makes such superb guitars. I expect better quality control from a company like Takamine.
