Juries still out

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:

I replaced an SD JB (SH-4) with this pickup in a Soloist. It's an improvement for sure, but it's only about 75% of the way there in terms of the tone I am looking for. But I think that part of the problem is that what I think that I want to hear and what I am used to are different. I bought the Jackson to be more of a shred machine and it does it well. I'm a Gibson guy so between the longer scale length and the wood combined with a tighter pickup I am not used to articulation or the lack of bottom end. It's got bottom and it's a lot more full range than the JB was, but I keep trying to get a regular PAF type of tone and that's not what I should be going for with this setup. I can't blame the pickup for doing what it's supposed to do. The pickup height really does have an effect on the tone though. I wasn't thrilled at first, but just doing the old Bill Lawrence method of a nickel under the high E and two under the low E to get it close got it really close to where I wanted it. I put a triple shot in there with it and it splits nicely, but parallel sounds absolultely great. I probably play it in parallel more than any other position. I may go with a full array of Dimarzio's or some Bill Lawrence pickups in the future but for now this will do.

Awesome, metal as hell

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:

I got this pickup about 2 years for my strat, cuz needless to say the standard pickups on strats are pretty crappy. I have a HSS setup so i first got 2 54' single coils (amazing) and then later got this bad boy, and was frikkin blown away! The squeels (harmonics) this thing can pull off have blown away my friends, they cant believe what they are hearing, especially from a strat! I would have to say this pickup is best for metal or hard rock, it can do ANYTHING in these genres, but like other reviewers have noted, its also awesome for blues (anyone who knows anything knows any tone that can pump out metal can be toned down to have an amazing, rich, warm bluesy tone.) I would almost take a star off my review for one small thing though, the gold pickup cover does NOT fit strats, or at least mine, not even close, even though the salesman said it would...the screws werent even lined up right, but I rigged it up anyway, and I really cant complain, because the gold cover doesnt look nearly as cool as the black pickup itself does. I only trust seymour now for pickups....period.

MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT! but READ

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:

I have a beautifull Epiphone Les Paul Standard made in Korea. It came stock with the chrome covered ALNICO 5 pickups which are a GREAT moderate output pickup (in my opinion). I was seeking a clearer crisp HIGH output distortion pickup. I got the SH-6 bridge and neck set for 100.00 dollars new at a local shop on sale. I installed them and WOW! awesome HIGH treble distortion output clear and crisp and full of power! Which is awesome for me! however! PLEASE READ ON! It took away the Thick meaty traditional LES PAUL tone! so if you are willing to sacrifice that for a clear crisp high output pickup! DO it! you will be very happy, but if you want to preserve that thickness you may want to consider a Seymour Duncan JB. If you have never installed your own pickups before type in this under search HOW TO INSTALL PICKUP click on the Seymour Duncan site and Mr. Seymour himself will show you how to install the pickups in great detail. FOLLOW his instructions step by step! NOTE: The pickup if purchased new will give you a schematic of a typical LP type guitar. If you have never soldered and installed pickups before have a friend or professional observe you. It is not that difficult, basic soldering skills is important. Dont do anything unless you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing or are being supervised by someone who does. OVERALL I am very happy with these but the MASSIVE tone difference will take some getting use to! If you typically only use a bridge pickup then just buy the bridge pickup, I bought the set because I wanted them to match, and I can switch to the neck if I need a thicker sound.

SH-6 Distortion YO!

By Matt Pavlatos

from Lancaster, PA

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:

I got this pickup a while back from a local shop in bridge flavor for my old Kramer and this thing shreds. This pickup is basically perfect for the old school stuff. It then becomes perfect once you tinker around with pedals, settings and what not. Great distortion and cleans up fantastically to go from thrashing to clean acoustic sounding stuff. The only problem is that it's not the greatest for drop C tuning. It gets a little too muddy for my liking but maybe it's just my amp or spring tension on the FR. Overall, a sick pickup, if you like distortion from old school metal to Slayer, then this is your pickup. This thing works for lead players to rhythm guitarists alike because of all of the sounds this thing dishes out.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:

Great output, really fat sounding, great harmonics and just great all round...I put this on my strat cause I was looking for a beefier tone, I was amazed at how heavy it made me sound...thats not all though, roll back the distortion and you can have a great blues tone...overall this pickup is just really tight sounding, I'm gonna put em on all the guitars I ever get.

Great Pickup

By V-Man

from Ft. Walton Beach, FL

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:

I bought one of these for my Gibson V, and I'm so glad I did. The stock pickups are great, I still have them, but I needed something a little different. I put the Distortion in the Bridge and a Duncan '58 in the neck and I'm extremely pleased with the results. It almost surpasses my sonic expectations. If you work with your Volume and Tone knobs, as well as your amp, mainly your amp, you can get just about any rock sound imaginable. From thick crunch to screaming leads, it's all there. Overall, perfect rock tone!

Awesome Pickup!

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:

The Duncan distortion is great it has insane output and great harmonics with awesome crunch. It has great highs with nice clarity and treble but not an annoying treble the mids and lows are just right. I recommend this pickup to people who like nice and bright distortion.
