I purchased these for a jazz bass... only "complaint" is similar to what I've already read: the metal is not black but more of a gray color. The abalone is quite attractive and will give a unique accent to your instrument. The price could be a litlle saltly for many people; if you play a typical 3-knob Strat you could alternatively improve you sound by getting 10 sets of new guitar strings instead at the same cost!

I'd bought 2 black knobs with natural abalone, and 2 with 'blue' abalone. My biggest concern is that the knob itself is quite a light black, definitely more as a gray. I might paint them to be true black. The shell was a nice pattern, though. The other 2 knobs, the 'blue' option, were quite an overly dyed blue, almost obscuring any grain. The knobs themselves are very solid, with good grip, arriving with their own allen wrenches. A decent product, but the black knobs really should be shades darker. A-

I ordered the black with blue abalone. The blue stone is actually very, very dark. None of the beautiful grain (shown in picture) is visible with out a bright light shining directly on it. The black part is more a smokey colored chrome than black. Even though it is pretty dark it still appears more silver than black. It is a pretty nice knob, just not what is pictured.
