The P2K is the best folding music stand that my son has ever had! It is light weight and easy to set-up, but it is also very sturdy and stable. It is compact, easy to carry, and looks sleek and professional on stage. I would also recommend getting the carrying bag that is available to go with this stand.

This stand is a good compromise between a wire stand and an orchestral stand. If you play outdoors, you probably won't want this stand. Its a bit light and unstable if there is a lot of vibration and wind. If you play indoors in one place a lot, then don't get this stand. You would probably be better with a slightly less portable, more stable stand like the Voyager. What this stand is good for though is if you really really really have to move around a lot, but don't like flimsy wire stands. Its quite a good compromise between the two. Look at it as a much much more stable and equally portable "wire stand" but not as stable as an orchestral stand.I would have liked a single-piece tripod type setup for the legs, rather than 3 separate pieces that lock onto the pole, but its okay.

Comments about Petersen Folding Music Stand:

I found I could not use this stand because of its bulk, weight and size. I was hoping for a more portable stand when I ordered it. I plan on sending it back as soon as I return home from a trip. I think I just ordered the wrong thing for my use.

Comments about Petersen Folding Music Stand:

Waste of money. If the company can fix the design flaw in the way the legs work,it would be a winner. Pretty useless otherwise. The legs slide right out of the groove if you so much as lift the stand to reposition or change chairs.

I love the fact that this stand folds into itself and serves as its own case. Once you set it up, there is no bag or strap to keep up with. It fits easily into a a percussionists backpack and sets up quickly.

          Weak leg structure

          By S. T. Smith

          from Dandridge, TN

Comments about Petersen Folding Music Stand:

Be very careful putting the legs on and taking them off. any slight angle of the legs will create torque on the tabs at the base that they slide into and will likely break them off. This part definilty needs redesign or metal slots.

          worked fine for a time

          By violist

          from Lebanon, IN

Comments about Petersen Folding Music Stand:

This stand is portable, not heavy and looks nice, much better than a wire stand. Breaks down nicely and is manageable when carrying instrument, music and stand (the carrying bag is great). I was totally happy with it until my teacher's son decided to disassemble it for me and over tightened the knobs on either side of the desk. Had a devil of a time getting them loosened. Then the weakest part of the stand reared it's ugly head. One of the slots that hold each of the 3 legs cracked rendering the stand totally useless for gigs. It is now in my living/practice room held together with duct tape. I loved this stand, but now the love affair is over. Haven't found a gig stand yet, am carefully searching. Good Luck.

I find this product difficult to assemble, use, then dissamble. Its surface is really to small for a music book..and I will be returning it for credit--after the Xmas rush. I could not reccomend it to anyone. Dr.J. Magee

          Great for most gigs

          By Wizard

          from Philadelphia, PA

Comments about Petersen Folding Music Stand:

I have had this for several years now, and once you put it together once or twice, it's easy! I actually bought an "extender" from Petersen which allows me to stand rather than sit at a gig. When you're taking the bus or the train, this is the perfect accessory. I also have the travel bag which is great for holding tuners, cork grease, extra strings, pencils, etc. You get the idea. I have a little arthritis in my hands, so I always keep one of those rubber "lid grippers" in the travel bag so I can grasp and tighten the coneectors securely when setting up or taking down the stand. I've used this outside many times. Only once, on a really windy day, did it give me a little scare. I noticed other players with Manhasset metal stands were having similar trouble that day. I don't play from huge fake books that weigh alot, so I haven't had a problem with music being too heavy like someone else reported here.

Do Not Buy This Stand !

          By Mike Daugherty

          from Seattle, WA

Comments about Petersen Folding Music Stand:

I knew there was a problem as soon as I removed this stand from the box. Too many parts, too much to lose at a gig. I finally got it together, set it upright, and immediately a leg fell off and it toppled to the ground -- without the 200 song band book I was about to put on it. Certainly, a disaster in the making. One of those cheap metal folding stands would be more reliable. This stand is junk.

          Worth the price

          By Holly A

          from South Yarmouth, MA

Comments about Petersen Folding Music Stand:

I have only used this stand once so far, but am very pleased with it. It is easy to assemble and dis-assemble and fits in my euphonium gig bag. It is sturdier than I thought it would be, for a portable stand. I like the pull-out extenders for larger pieces of music. Only time will tell how durable it is, but I will be using it at least twice a week, so it will get plenty of use.
