Comments about Mighty Mite MM2700A Stratocaster Replacement Body - Unfinished:
unfortunately, I have mostly negative comments about the mighty mite, Ash, unfinished stratocaster body. 1) the neck pocket was and is off. the neck probably would have fit better, if the factory didn't drill the holes in the wrong place. the neck is a full 1/8th inch from seating against the body, so there is a gap and the pickguard can't cover it up. 2) there is a dent in the bottom edge of the body that can't be sanded out, and since I'm doing a transparent finish, can't be filled. 3) every retail seller, as well as mighty mite, says the body is "sanded and sealed and ready to finish with any type of finish." WRONG !!! it's not grain filled, so I had to order a jar of filler and wait a week for it to arrive, then fill and sand, then spray the sanding sealer and sand again. 4) I couldn't get any online retailer to post or email actual pictures of the guitar body that I would be purchasing. got stuck with a grain pattern and glue seems that should have been on the back of the guitar or never allowed to leave the factory.
other than those four items, the body is really nice. there were no problems with drilling for the bridge, pickguard, jack plate and rear plate.
the shape, feel and size are very "strat like" and the weight is perfect.
recommendations. if you're going to buy one of these bodies, try and do it in person and bring along your neck and screws to make sure it fits or at least try and have the retailer send a photo of what you are actually buying. the stock pictures on every website, show the perfect body and grain pattern and that's probably not what you'll be getting.
this is all based on one purchase, of one guitar body, so hopefully others have had or will have a better experience.
and...mighty mite's customer service is non-existent. tried to contact them several times regarding the sanding and sealer, but never heard a word back from them.
