Comments about Evans Genera Coated Snare Head:
I go back and forth between this and the G1 for my snare drums. I am a jazz drummer and play Noble & Cooley snares, both a piccolo and a 5x14. The Genera has a nice feel for light playing using either brushes or sticks. The coating stands up to brushes better than other brands I have tried. The tone ring on the underneath side of the head dampens the over-ring that is inherent using the G1. This changes the tone of the drum making it dryer with greater articulation. If you can play a nice, smooth roll this head will let you show off that skill. Conversely, the Genera is not as warm and is much less forgiving than the G1. Use for light to moderate playing in accoustic ensemble from jazz to classical. All Evans heads are well made, consistent, and durable holding their tone exceptionally well. Highly recommended.
