Mellow tone and easy playing.
DR Strings flat wound Hi-Beam stainless steel bass strings are constructed upon a round core unique in the industry. Hi-Beams require much more time, care, and extra steps to make than other bass strings. The extra effort DR expends making Hi-Beams results in a bass string that is highly flexible, musically warm and renowned for durability, unusually long life, consistency, and string-to-string balance. They don't eat your frets.
Medium, 4 strings, 45-105.

Comments about DR Strings Flatwound Legend Bass Strings Medium:
I have a set of DR Hi-Beam Flat Wounds strung up on my G&L SB2. I have experience with several different brands of flats (Chromes, GHS Precision Flats, Lakland, LaBella & Fender). The Hi-Beam Flats are a fine set of strings, however, they don't do anything special to emerge ahead of the above mentioned brands. Nor do they justify the $40+ price tag. Of all the flats i've tried these strings remind me most of D'Addario Chromes in Tone, Smoothness, and Tension. On a scale of 10 I rate the different traits as follows: -Smoothness - 7 (10 being the smoothest) -Tension - 7 (10 being the highest tension) -Tone - 6.5 (10 being the darkest tone; 1 being the brightest) -Value 4 (10 being the highest value) If these strings were competitively priced (particularly with Chromes) I would recommend them. However, I don't see/hear/feel a reason to justify paying $12-$22 more than any other flats on the market. Conversely, if price is not an issue for you - the price difference between the Hi-Beams and LaBellas is simply not great enough to pass on LaBellas. Another note about these strings - they only come in one scale length and if you are using a Fender or Fender-type bass the E-String is very long and the wide portion of the string must wrap around the tuning post. Something that I find takes away "punch" from the E String. In conclusion: A good set of strings but the competition in the flat wound market is too good for DR to price these so "Hi".
