Played flat-out through a non-master volume tube amp, the 36th anniversary PAF recreates the deep character of the great plug-in, turn-up and wail school of tone. I put this in a Korean LP copy and was floored by the results. It's got that classic sound of the late '70's/early '80s down. Don't think that means it can't cover other ground. This thing oozes blues. It was exactly what I expected it to be. Mine is the uncovered zebra and I'm sure the covered version offers a slightly different tone so you may want to consider that. I put one in the neck and bridge and they function great in either location. Woohoo! Great price, great pickup.

These are not for metalheads.
If a clear or crunch classic rock/blues tone is what you´re up to, look no further. This pickup has the perfect balance between transparency and warmth, sparkle to balls. When clear they sound sweet and warm, but clear and defined too. When distorted, the clarity and note separation remains there along with a butter like texture and singing quality.
These pickups replaced the Gibson classic 57's (too dark, middy and ice pick IMHO) I had in my Ephy SG and LP. I have this model DP103 in neck and bridge positions and couldn´t be happier.
My quest for the ultimate strat type pickup ended years ago when I got the texas specials; the quest for the ultimate humbucker ended when I recently got these. And for the price? Best deal in years. Impressive job DiMarzio!!!
