Designed to give Steve Vai more headroom and dynamics.
The original Evolution bridge guitar pickup did exactly what Steve Vai wanted it to do: kick butt and produce serious scream. The Evo 2 DP215 bridge pickup was designed to be more complex -- the same basic tone with increased headroom and dynamics, so that the sound kills on 10 and cleans up when the volume is rolled down. With a little less power than the original Evolution, Evo 2 balances perfectly with the Evolution neck model and performs equally well with high gain and vintage amps.

Comments about DiMarzio DP215 Evo 2 Bridge Pickup:
I bought this pu to replace the inf stock pu in my ibanez RG. This is a really recomendable update. This pickup is very warm and powerful and blends perfectly with the Evolution Neck pickup. The balance with the evolution neck is perfect. This pickup is perfect for hard rock. Very defined sound, specially for leads, the pickup is very clear and warm, and mekes your guitar sings and audible trough all the instruments of your band. The pu is very versatile, going from a clean sound to the heaviest distortion with a turn of the volume knob. A option i recomend is to install a push-pull pot that lets you split the pu, because the single coil sound is amazing too! This pickup is not for extreme heavy or death... This pickup sounds amazing trough a marshall 800 or a bogner... In my opinion, not suitable for a Mesa B. Very rich in mids, has less highs than the original evolution bridge; great bottom end, very defined, not muddy.Perfect for soloing, and great for chords... From blues to hi octane rock... For extreme heavy or progressive metal i prefeer EMG or DiMarzio Steve's special/ tone zone/ paf pro.I hope this helps you.
