Classic beefy low- and mid-tones!

The Breed bridge pickup is not as hot as the Evolution, but it's got a warm and punchy mid-range coupled with a fat low end that rolls off before it can get muddy.

If you've seen Steve Vai play in the last few years, you may have seen him playing an Ibanez Jem guitar with the word "Pogo" taped on the face. The Pogo is fitted with DiMarzio Breed pickups and is the result of Steve's desire to have a fat, classic humbucker sound to contrast with the hotter, screaming Evolution-equipped guitars.

Harmonics come easily and the 4-conductor wiring coil enables cool "notch tone" coil-splitting. Recommended for the bridge position on solid body guitars.

The Breed was designed to warm up and smooth out the sound of 25-1/2 scale trem guitars. It's got a lot more power than a PAF, but it also has a finer touch than high-output models. Picking hard will generate a lot of voltage, but a softer attack will clean up the sound of an overdriven amp.

Get outrageous tones ala Steve with the Breed bridge pickup. Order today.

Excellent and Heavy Sounding

Comments about DiMarzio DP166 The Breed Bridge Pickup:

This pup adds low-end, body, and power to a guitar without being muddy. It's similar to an Evo 2 but has slightly less upper mids and more lows and lower-mids. Compared to an Evo 2 it's thicker and warmer sounding. Or put another way, the Evo 2 sounds like ceramic, and Breed like alnico, because that's exactly the magnets they use. Articulation is excellent, just play around with pickup height vs amp gain to get the most articulate sound possible. I'd say the Evo 2 is slightly more articulate just because it's more upper mid oriented, has more "shh shh shh" in the picking than the Breed, but since I'm downtuning and want maximum power in the sound, I'm sticking with the Breed. So, I recommend the Dimarzio Breed Bridge for any guitar that seems lacking in the lows. As for the Breed Neck, I got that too but it ended up being too rounded for cleans in my basswood guitar, as I wanted a clear sparkly acoustic sound and didn't get it with the Breed Neck, though for distorted leads and smooth blues crunch it's a good match for the bridge.
