DiMarzio

The result of years of research for a very demanding player: Steve Vai.

The DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup is a hefty humbucker designed for maximum impact and power. The Evolution pickup's sound is tight, aggressive, and loud. The DP159 Evolution incorporates DiMarzio's patented dual-resonance coil configuration that senses more harmonic overtones than ordinary humbuckers. Perfect for solos that really cut through. Low notes are very tight, and the highs have a lot of presence. DiMarzio designed the DP159 pickup for Steve's Ibanez Jems, but it can add a lot of punch and definition to Les Paul and similar set-neck guitars -- even the lowest bass notes really jump out of the amp, and feedback occurs easily with a wide range of harmonic overtones.

Features

All subtle and arcane guitar talk aside, the major determinate of your tone is your pickup. Go for this one and you'll see what we mean. Put it in the cart.

Extremely excellent pickup

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

I could not ask for a more better sounding pick up than the DP159! It carries a pinch harmonic like a banshee on steroids! It also has that wah type sound as if you were barely pressing your wah pedal when you crank up the distortion and play some fast thrash metal. It also sounds good for rock and blues playing aswell as it has a ton of mid-range presence. 10 out of 10 for me!

Phenominal!

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

This pickup delivers. Super-hot sound that can take your amp and make it beg for mercy, or can sing it sweet, serenading lullabies on the clean channel. Clear, defined bass which has that rounded sound to avoid any mud, crystal clear mids that sing out over top of the lower frequencies when chording (even with massive distortion), and liquid highs that sing and melt the notes like butter. Vai knew what he was doing when he designed this baby. I use this in sequence with the Dimarzio LiquiFire in the neck (H-H wiring), and when the two pickups combine, it makes you want to cry for joy. I have never used a better sounding, more versatile bridge pickup. I can do everything from metal to jazz to funk and it delivers. Worth every penny.

Clear even with major gain

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

I replaced a Ducan Jeff Beck with this DP159. The tone for chord playing is not as sweet or smooth as the Duncan but clairity even with lots of gain is totally awsome. I like to hear subtle changes in chord voicing and this pickup delivers, there is no room for sloppy fingering here. I love it, but i also love Strat single coil clairity but lplay a lot of metal and like the thicker sound of humbuckers at times. So if your looking for mud, move on.

great sound

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

I wanted pick-ups with a lot of distortion. So, I talked to this guy at the local guitar store and he recommended the DiMarzio Super-Distortion pick-ups.

Amount of Distortion

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

I wanted pick-ups with alot of distortion. So, I talked to the guy at the local guitar shop and he recommended the DiMarzio Super-Distortion pick-ups. However, when I returned later that week the owner was there and he said that I should use Evolution pick-ups. So, I decided to go with the owner's recommendation. After he installed them he plugged my guitar into one of the top-dollar Marshall amps at the store. Sadly, I was immediately disappointed in the lack of distortion. I took my guitar home and tested it in my Line6 HD147 and got just almost enough distortion, but when you do finger-tapping it starts to get real thin. However, the sound of these Evos are beautiful and do have above fair distortion. On a scale of 1 to 20 I'd give them a 19, but honestly I wish I would've listened to the 18 yr old sales guy and not the owner. But I'm still keeping these Evos

I own it

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

This pickup is tailor made for lead work (here comes the BUT)I would not recommend this for rhythm guitar. It was not really made for that and those who use it, are mainly lead players 95% of the time. It was born to scream, not growl.I use the Evolution in the neck position and a Duncan invader on the bridge gives me the best of both worlds.

I love it

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

This pickup is crisp, clear, strong, and and straight to the point in overdrive, no muddiness, or clutter. Harmonics are right there when you need them too, but not overdone.I strongly recommend using the coil splitter option when playing clean.

PERFECT

By seraph

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

The tone is PERFECT unless DiMarzio comes up with something super perfect. I used the neck evolution and an x2n bridge on an Ibanez rg470 and they matched really well. It screams on overdrive, especially on the higher signatures.
