Created for Steve Vai.

Designed for maximum impact and power—to get a tight, aggressive, loud sound. It incorporates a patented dual-resonance coil configuration that senses more harmonic overtones than ordinary humbuckers. Works in almost all solidbodies and most semi-hollowbodies as well. Though specifically created for Steve Vai's Ibanez Jems, it can add a lot of punch to Les Paul and similar set-neck guitars. Makes the lowest notes jump out of the amp, and feedback occurs easily with a wide range of harmonic overtones.

Super versatile pickup

Comments about DiMarzio DP158 Evolution Neck Pickup:

I love this PU, and I am a tone chasing mofo. I am very pick as to what pickups I like, and have literally been through tons of them and through various guitars as well. I put the Evo neck in my RG1570 and it is absolute magic! I love that it has high output, if I want a more vintage tone I can always roll back the volume or tone knobs a bit and it cleans up wonderfully. I put a Dimarzio true vintage middle pickup in as well and you have to hear the combination of the two together with the evo split (position 4). I can keep the volume and tone pegged in this configuration and there is no harshness, only CLARITY. Dont hesitate, go get them. I have my action set lower than 1mm at the 12th and the B and high E sustain forever...even with full step bent notes. Of course this is partially due to the guitar too, but the sustain is considerably better than the stock neck PU was. I cant set my RG1570 down now. My SG standard, and my Prestige 77dx reissue are sadly not getting any playing time now, this guitar sounds soooooo good now. I play through noting but tube amps and this can PU sounds great for any amount of distortion that you use from clean to metal. I cant speak for down tuning though, not into that. Keep in mind, you sill need to adjust this PU properly, just like any other. Many people dont understand the importance of the distance of the PU from the strings. This is why I think that a lot of PUs get bad reviews. You gotta know how to EQ your amp as well. Anyway, this PU rocks.

nice soloing

Comments about DiMarzio DP158 Evolution Neck Pickup:

If your a lead guitarist then this is your baby.It has nice harmonics and will scream on cue. Not as great for rhythm guitar, but I use the evolution in the neck position and Seymour Duncan Invader at the bridge, between the two there is nothing you will not be able to play.
