Fantastic Bass strings

Comments about D'Addario ECB81-5 Chromes XL Flatwound Bass Strings - Light Gauge:

I have never played bass strings that have this much PUNCH! The notes really project and growl. Zero fret sliding noise. They are very lively for flatwound strings. I have used them for a month now, still sound great. Also, you can move your walking fingers up to the base of the neck to get a really good double/upright bass sound. Now I have two instruments in one. These are the strings to get if you are a guitar player who plays bass too. They give you lots of speed and don't blister up your fingers. They even slap and pop. They are a little larger than most bass strings. Most basses can accommodate larger strings. If the strings bind in the nut slots it will not tune properly. The bass will require the top of the nut slots to be slightly opened on each side with a small file. People who normally work on their own instruments can do this. All others get a guitar tech to do it for you.

Comments about D'Addario ECB81-5 Chromes XL Flatwound Bass Strings - Light Gauge:

Smooth feel, warm and punchy tone. Easy on the fingers and frets. The strings are packed in a gas filled pouch and are flawless. If you are a groove player you will like them.

Great mellow thumpy sound

By Bass Bob

Comments about D'Addario ECB81-5 Chromes XL Flatwound Bass Strings - Light Gauge:

I use these strings on my 5 string Dean fretless acoustic bass (lovingly knicknamed the "Aircraft Carrier"). My goal was to find a way to get as close to a stand-up bass sound as possible, from an acoustic bass guitar. The combination of the projection I get from the Dean (unplugged), and the warmth of tone I get from these strings fits my needs and expectations exceedingly well. These are the only strings I play on this guitar.
