This is an excellent pair of hi-hats. Crisp, clean, bright, and defined. Loud but not too loud. Nice sharp, tight tone when played closed, awesome bright, cutting tone when played open.
The Z custom hi-hats are outstanding. I recently bought a pair and they are good for most styles. Some of the styles these are great for are: Punk, Rock, Jazz, Classic Rock, and most of the time metal.
I recently brought these hi hats for myself. and I luv them. They fit my drumming style perfectly they are loud and aggressive. I'm not to sure if they really suit all drum styles though Z customs are definitely for louder styles such as metal. You can really hit these cymbals and still get a great sound. If you're considering buying new hats, that kick serious butt, look no further than Z custom hats.
I've been playing with these hats for a few years now and they're still holding up good, no cracks etc. They are very musical and versatile for a lot of live music. One thing I would say is they aren't ideal for recording since they're so loud they tend to bleed into the other mics, especially if you're a hard hitter, which makes it a nightmare for the sound engineer to deal with, so unless you play louder music (which you should be really to even consider buying these) then stick to the A Customs which are brighter and have a higher pitched and thinner sound. I use the 13" Z Customs, they sound a bit like System of a Down - Chop Suey when recorded, and I quite like that sound. Hope this helps!
