I have been playing alto (Mark VI) for some time and decided to add the tenor to my repertoire. I gave several tenor saxes a test drive; Selmer Reference 54, Cannonball Excalibur, LA SAX and the Yamaha. Although the Selmer Reference was the best sounding, the Yamaha was a close second place and the Yamaha's price and playability made it the clear winner. I would take a Yamaha over a Cannonball or LA Sax any day. Plus add the right mouth piece and you will get the sound you're looking for.

I got this sax this summer when I started playing and it has been the best. it is extremely easy to blow next to the 90 Keilwerth and and it has a nice sound. it is the one I would get for anyone who is starting or wants something better then a student. also the color is great. love it so much.

After reaching the limits of my Yamaha 23, I got this sax. The intonation is definitely dead-on, and you can't beat the sound. I like a warm sound, and the Cannonball and Selmer I played couldn't touch this. I used a Selmer S80 C* with a Legere reed (which I HIGHLY recommend too). The case that it comes with is just awesome, and the picture on this site doesn't do the horn justice. It's more of a bronze color. Also, the keywork is such an improvement over my old 23, and it feels better than the Cannonballs and Selmers also. The price makes it a great purchase. My only gripe now is why didn't I buy the 62...

This saxophone is one of the best for the player who thinks that he can handle the low voice of the Tenor Sax. As a student, I've gone through eight different tenors but none have the rich, low sound that you tend to look for like this instrument. It's excellent for symphonic band and other concert type songs. This sax is made for the player who thinks of emotion while playing.
