I must be a trombone nut having owned close to 20 trombones. I'm down to 2 these days. An Old's Super and a YSL 695. I chose the 695 as oppose to the 691 because it has a smaller bell(7 1/2 inches)which I feel makes the sound a little edgier. Its a real bright sounding horn and the slide has to be the smoothest I ever played on. Like playing a King 2B but better. A very easy instrument to play on especially for the high register.

I've played several horns in my career and have always come back to this horn. I play in a show band 4 hours a night, five nights a week. At the end of the night, I don't feel beat up as I did with my Bach 16M. This is a great horn.

I can play at levels of difficulty I could only dream of before! High register is nearly effortless, double-and triple-tonguing technique is so tight and true, trills and arpeggios emerge with great accuracy, and the tone is so resonant, even at low volumes, that sometimes the horn makes my ears ring (pleasurably)! At low volume, where I often had trouble putting out low and high register notes, this horn never lets me down. Slide action is unbelievable! I can play for hours with no discomfort or fatigue at all! The three-leadpipe feature allows me to change out for different styles of playing, one for deep, full basslines, another for high register solos and the third for all-purpose. I recommend to anyone who has a middle-of-the-road horn from the well-known U. S. mfgrs., try a Yamaha, you'll be amazed!

I have played many of the newer stock horns. Yamaha's quality is best! Slides usually never need any adjustment. This horn is very versatile. With the three leadpipes you can tailor your sound just about any way you want. I find it to play in between the sound of a Bach and King.
