Yamaha YAS-875EX Custom Alto SaxophoneImproved versions of that proven classic the Custom 875, these saxes are the result of decades of painstaking research and trials involving some of the world's greatest saxophonists. They feature a smooth response and a deep, refined sound full of rich colors. They also feature a solid feel with quick and nimble action, a wide dynamic range, stunning projection, and an authoritative tone with a beautifully defined tonal core. You will find that the depth and smoothness of their sound is simply incredible, and you will also find that both these horns are very flexible, at home in any kind of music. On both models the size and shape of the key buttons have been changed for a better feel, while the new Custom G1 neck enhances tonal resonance and gives a quicker, more comfortable response. And the EX alto has a two-point bell brace and no center-bow reinforcement plate for better efficiency, so you don't have to work as hard to sound great.

I've been looking for the perfect instrument for college which I'm to start in the next fall. After trying the 82Z and the 875EX I'm the proud new owner of the EX. I'd heard of the beautiful sound and resonance of the 82Z but in reality the horn sounds very edgy and brassy. It has terrible sound quality, rivaling the sound of my previously owned YAS-52. The 875 has a very round full beautiful sound that's almost overpowering, and the key action is so fast I'm having to play constantly to keep as fast as the horn performs, which is better than my dream horn of a mark VI I'm afraid to say.
I have a silver plated with a gold plated neck and it was definitely better than the Series III in the same finish and also any other horn at the World Sax Congress. Intonation, of course, is excellent (but not perfect), and the tone is very even throughout the range. By the way I think the gold plated neck is WELL worth the money. When I tried the neck it was astonishing the difference it made. I was at first skeptical what kind of difference it might make, but from the first few notes there was no question in my mind I would get it. An excellent horn, and you can't beat the price!
This saxophone is the all time ultimate sax from Yamaha. My friend purchased this saxophone and let me play it, and I have wanted one ever since. If you have any chance to buy this I would go for it. It will be money well spent.
I can't even begin to describe how much this horn has helped me in college. Everything from the Glazunov Concerto to my ska band..this horn does it all. The action is tight and light, and I love the response. It is lightning quick.GET THIS HORN
Well, I bought a silver custom ex at the towards the end of summer and when I first played it I was amazed. its a great choice to play jazz because the sound is so bright...if you can support well the high range is a lot more in tune. and low b-flat is so much easier to play out. The projection is so powerful I love playing in my combo band and I usually double the bari part. solos sound so much better with the sound you can get from this saxophone. Its not only great for jazz but if you play classical music its great because its so in tune and blends well with other horns. I am still amazed at how this saxophone still sounds and if you want a even greater sound buy a new mouthpiece(I bought a Bobby Dukoff...plays great) but everyone has a different sound so this sax is well worth the buy and it attracts eyes too...well mine did because its silver just looking at it will amaze you so if you are looking for a good sax this is it! Good Luck in your decision.
