Excellent buy! I have no regrets whatsoever about buying this sax. Mine tunes well and only got one VERY minor leak from shipping (I didn't even notice it, my expert told me) which was also done carefully. I took it to a woodwind expert who specializes in sax and he said that all the altissimo notes pop right out, and that the key work is nice and tight. Looks great , sounds great, feels great. I love this sax.
First of all, I want to comment on the price. It's so much cheaper than the other professional saxes made by other companies like Selmer and Yani. It was definitely something that I could afford without compromising the quality, sound, performance, and overall quality of the instrument. Secondly, I want to give you an idea of how much this sax can improve your sound. I was eighth chair out of ten in my high school band when I had my old saxophone. Granted it was a student sax. Then I signed up for a band camp over the summer to get more experience since I didn't have the time to get private lessons. When I played at my seating audition I got first chair in the high school band consisting of freshmen all the way up to seniors. I had no private lessons and I had only been playing for about 11 months (I switched from flute). The keys are quick in response. The low notes come out just as well as the high ones. Not to mention it has very nice engraving and a really light case. I am very happy with my choice.
This is a great sax! Every note sounds terrific and comes out clearly. When combined with a poly crystal James Pyne mouthpiece, it has the BEST intonation I've ever heard! I would recommend this sax for all sax players. I've used it every day for almost 5 months, and its been working like a dream!
Before buying a 62, I had an old antique winds that was absolutely horrible. I could feel a huge difference when I got the 62, and my playing went straight through the roof. The springs are all at a perfect tightness, all of the notes fall right under your hand, and the saxophone is extremely responsive. Furthermore, the tone is great in all registers. I literally practiced for two hours every day for the two months proceeding my purchase of this saxophone, as it was such a joy to play it. I recommend this instrument to anybody who loves playing saxophone.
First off, I bought this horn from the Woodwind in February. After trying about six different models I decided to go with the 62II. I tried three separate Yamaha 62IIs and found they all played well. Very consistent among all three horns, with good intonation in all registers. The one I bought played slightly more open than the other two, but each had a great sound. I bought mine because I'll play more jazz & blues on it and wanted the big, powerful sound capability I found in my horn. The quality of construction is excellent, as are the looks of this horn. I am especially happy Yamaha upgraded the 62II with the G1 neck and re-designed the lower key guards. I thought the 62II played much better than the Yanagisawa 901, which is in the same price range as this horn. My horn sounds terrific with both my classical and jazz setups. It easily plays anything from soft, gentle passages to screaming loud blues without breaking up at all. And while I'd rather have had a hardshell case I have to admit the new light case is great, too. Only time will tell if it will hold up like the hardshells do. Bottom line: I love my new horn! The only horn I played I liked as much was the Yanagisawa 991 but I couldn't see spending that much more for the 991 when I loved the Yamaha. You really can't go wrong with the new 62II. And the folks at the Woodwind were very friendly and helpful!
