I like the portability of the pad and the feel of both sides (each has its place in a practice session). If this had been available in an 8 inch version, I would have given it 5 stars. The six inch size is very handy and it's not overly small, but 8 inches would have been better. The 12 inch for me was too big, as I need it to fit in a small gig bag. Well contructed and a great product. I'd recommend it for anyone who wants to take a practice pad with them. If you're only going to be using it at home, go ahead and get the 12 inch.

The double sided Vic Firth Practive Pad provides great bounce and is similiar to a tight snare head. The sound is nearly silent. The hard side (louder) has a texture that allows it to sit comfortably on your lap without sliding. I can sit watching TV or a movie with family or guests and practice high speed rudiments while bothering or annoying no one! It fits in carry on luggage so that it can be used while waiting in airports or train stations. The larger size fits the lap well.

This is a good practice pad. I find the12" to be a little large. It might be better to have something between the 6" to 12" range. The soft rubber has a lot of bounce, it also helps with stick fundementals such as rudiments. The hard rubber not as much bounce, but really helps with stick control. It is definetly a durable pad that can be used for a long time. A good purchse to help with drumming.
