When looking for a stand, I have a couple simple requirements: sturdiness and portability.
First, this thing is sturdy. The three legs give it a nice, wide base. I tried staging accidents by placing my bass (a Fender Jaguar) on the stand and kicking it, brushing it as I walked by, and pushing on the top with my hands to see how much force it took to make it wobble. The grabber at the top gripped the headstock/neck well and kept the bass from falling, even though the bottom moved a bit when nudged. It would take quite a shock to tip the thing over.
The stand is also very portable. The legs fold up completely and the yolk on top folds over. The best part is lock on bottom, which keeps the legs from flopping all over. One thing I always hated about standard stands is they come apart into two pieces: the main body and the bottom holder. The GS-1000 is one piece and folds up smaller than a normal stand.
Some other nice features are the velvet pads at the bottom where the body of the guitar/bass touches and the rubbery padding on the yolk. It's also very nice to not worry about the strap and guitar cable getting tangled up in the cradle of a normal stand. I'm very happy with my purchase and I foresee this stand lasting a long time.
