I have been a user of the Thomastik Spirocore strings since the 1970s-they were being used by most of my favorite players at the time, and I was searching for that really live, sustained, growling sound. They proved to be the secret to getting that sound (in combination with a good instrument). My only negative comment is that the switch hitter who does orchestral gigs along with jazz may not like the bowed sound or the sustain for the orchestra gigs-would really wake up a dark or deader instrument though-Also-I rarely change my strings-just put a new set on the bass and it really sounds great-really articulate, with bright growling sustain-very cool. I know that there are a lot of new strings out there, but for my $$, this is the string for the guys looking for a contemporary sound-hands down!
These strings are the string of choice for jazz bass players who like a lively, growling sound with great sustain. Not an orchestral string. Excellent pizz sound. Think Ray Brown!
