Tuning your kit is almost as tedious as breakdown and set up before and after gigs. The Tama Tension Watch Takes the guess work out of tuning. A must have for the serious drummer.
When you are really thinking about taking your drums(kit) to the next level, then it is time to get this little tool. Its not all as fast as they say but its faster and much much more efficient than standard tuning systems. I have tuned drums for years by ear, and I got pretty good at it, but the Tension Watch made things much better. I Love my new Tama Tension Watch and I'll never let this great piece of machinery go.
Apart from drumming, I also play guitar which make me quite sensitive to the note differences. It's been a hard time for me to learn how to tune the drums well, especially to get an even pitch around the skin of drums, tried TAMA TW100 to eliminate the frustrating situation, and I love it, but the down side is that I still found pitch differences between the skin near each lugs.
The first time I used my tension watch, I tuned my entire kit in less then 20 minutes. I have an 8 piece kit. The cool thing is it saves so much time and head ache. After I tuned my first drum, which took me 5 minutes, I tapped the edges of my drums with a drum stick trying to hear if there was any variation in the sound. There was none! It was consistent throughout. If you're a drummer you must get the tension watch it will make your drums sound better in a lot less time. 10 stars out of 5
I bought a tension watch a while ago. I loved it. It took no time to tune my drums. It especially helped with the low frequencies. Unfortunately, one day I came home from a vacation to find my tension watch with the pin stiffened. I found out later that when people came in to re-do the woodwork in my drum room, they knocked it on to the floor. ALWAYS PUT IT BACK IN THE CASE WHEN YOU AREN'T USING IT, and don't let anyone else touch it. It's an 80 dollar piece of equipment that breaks if you drop it. I'm buying another one though because it was so useful. It's especially nice to do a quick tuning before a show and not have to tell everyone around you to shut up as you listen for head pitches. It makes bad kits sound pretty good too. With a new set of heads, it brings any drum set to its full sound potential. The tension watch doesn't work on drums with die cast hoops though. It also doesn't work on marching snare drums with Kevlar or Mylar heads.
